Well, we know how I feel about the whole PC thing. The issue with the 360 and the PS3 both is they are trying to be a PC while still calling themselves a console. Games now do installs, they have a full underlying OS, the parts inside are nothing more than CPU's and GPU's found in any common PC(well, about 3 years ago.. Mac has stopped using the PowerPC cpu's used in the 360 and Wii in favor of Intels new offerings.. and the video chipsets in the PS3 ans 360 are basically on level with a Geforce 7800).
I know PC's still have problems and need to be maintained, but the cost is not longer that big ($800 for a top of the line gaming system) considering what a PS3 costs and the fact PC will do so much more.
PC's still have a ways to go to be for everyone on the gaming front, but they are getting closer.
1) Newer video cards offer HDMI so hooking up to an HDTV in the living room becomes more doable 2) MS has pushed for 360 controller support on PC, so many of the games will play just like they do on 360 with the controller in hand
of course, mouse+keyboard which is my preferred control still is not something that works well from the couch (though I have used a gyroscopic mouse that kind of worked out..).
I think my biggest love for it is, every part I put in it was chosen by me, I know it's quality.. most parts have a lifetime warrenty, others have a minimum of 3-5 years. I tend to order from newegg which does no questions asked replacements for 1 year on every part.. so if something goes bad, I'm usually back up in just a days (well I'm up in a few minutes because I always keep spare parts around in case one goes bad).
I love consoles but I've really faded in my love for them since they started mimicking PC so closely (I mean it used to be consoles were all about the console games, lately every major game is a PC franchise (Call of Duty, Bioshock, Oblivion, Orange Box).
I had a 360 in the house for a long time but we moved and it was my Roomies. I was really about to get one of my own but I'm holding off until I know the issues are fixed.. DMC4 is coming to PC so I may just get it there and use the 360 controller to play it.. PS3 is still something I just can not get behind.. They were the problem child with breakdowns last gen but it seems MS decided to see if the 50% of them break thing helps their sales like it did the PS2.. When PS3 first launched I heard a lot of failure stories but I really don't hear that much now, seems they at least got the act together.
it is rather sad being MS has had 2 years in the market to find these issues and kill them.
I personally think it's the anti-piracy thats doing it, the entire reason the towell trick works,is because you overheat the system to the point that it kills your control chip, so it can no longer claim there is a problem which means no Red ring.. I think that controller just goes back and that is the entire issue.
