Yes but only on it's OWN merit. Which goes back to your points about why remake something in the first place. I think me and you are very close on this issue.
Take the Omen remake, every review is saying it's like the Pyscho remake in that it's almost shot-for-shot. Well then what exactly does it have going for it? It's nothing. It's almost a shell. It's those kinds of movies that won't become classics, unless it's by some stroke of ignorance by a mainstream public who've never seen the original. And that's doubtful.
Bud sadly it opens to the biggest Tuesday opening ever. That's the sad truth. Hollywood is not the only one to blame. Hollywood does not by movie tickets.
