Gozu (*Spoliers*)
      #143053 - 07/07/09 09:31 PM

To follow up my Ichi the Killer post (and continuing my string of Miike movies), I watched Gozu a few nights ago.

Really, wow, what can I say about this movie, lol? Going in, I kind of figured it was going to be weird and fucked up, and I wasn't let down. It was actually quite slow, but still interesting, if that makes sense. And I never really pick up on metaphors or symbolism in movies, so I really have no idea what (if anything) Miike was trying to say with this movie.

And the birthing scene at the end...that almost topped anything from Ichi. I figured something fucked up was going to happen at the end, but a grown man being birthed out of a woman wasn't exactly it.

GOZU...what can be said??? This movie was definitely weird as fuck, but interesting none the less. There's so much in this lynch-esque film I can't even wrap my head around it.

Really, I wish I knew what this movie was about.

I love it to death, I just have yet to find a point.

Although some high points of interest have to be the little dog splatter, the strange things going on in the television static.

The pressed yakuza bodies, the milk, the one fellow's face, and dare I say ladel's?

the birth was indeed epic.

Haha, yep you basically covered all the most notable bits right there.

And I just don't get what is up with the "guy (supposedly) becoming a woman, only for that woman to give birth to the original guy" thing.

one thing is for sure, I need to watch this again.

that birthing scene was indeed epic, even if the movie was trash that scene would have added 2 stars to my review.

In my opinion, this is probably Miike's second or third best movie (Tied with Audition). My favourite part has always been the Puppicide in the beginning, I can't help but laugh (And I don't care how twisted and/or mean that makes me sound). I remember the first time I saw it, I was doped up on cough medecine, so I thought I had either dreamed up the birthing sequence. Then I watched it again with a clear head, I have never blinked so little in my life. Then there's the dude with the cow-head, the breast-milk, the brother-beating, the franken-weiner (never seen, but I always visualize it) and the weirdo in the restaraunt having the tantric orgasms. All of these things add up to one of the weirdest, most fucked-up movies ever, definatley one you have to see more than once.

It's been a couple of years since I've seen this and I really need to revisit it too. I did enjoy it. Even though it was a little fucked up. No wait. I liked it because it was fucked up. Miike has sure made some weird movies.

I see there's a new 2 disc edition available. hmm. I think this movie is about brotherly love, even when that brother loses his mind and becomes a woman?

I don't know, all I know is that the whole vibe of this movie is extremely fucked up, but extremely enjoyable for anyone into subversive mind bending cinema.
