I think Rob Zombie should do original material, as should anyone, but... if he REALLY wants to do remakes, he would be well served to visit H.G. Lewis' filmography for inspiration. You can see the influence of Lewis on Zombie's whole schtick.
No, God no. H.G. Lewis is the Godfather of Gore, I love his films to death. Rob Zombie, IMO is only good doing original work. I have allreay seen Wizard of Gore turned into a shitty remake, please stop the madness. We each have our fav. horror films we don't want Zombie messing with.

I'm not sure RZ's style has really matured enough to know what he's capable of creating. But it's always fun to try figure out what styles a director chooses to draw from. Having only seen 1000 Corpses I could defineitly agree there's alot of Wes Craven's influence in the man.

I look forward to seeing Zombie's future work, because I enjoy the genre of movies that Zombie takes inspiration from. I think House of 1000 Corpses (even though it's butchered)is a solid film, I LOVE The Devil's Rejects & think it's the measuring stick by which all Zombie's future films should be judged, and I think Halloween (although far from perfect) isn't that bad.
Sure, Carpenter's Halloween embodies everything an independent horror film should be, but we KNEW it would be remade in due time. Zombie might've missed the mark with the whole background angle in the movie, but I think his vision of Michael Myers brought out a brutality that the character has never had before.
I'll put it like this;
If I absolutely had to take a stand against Myers I'd pick Carpenter's version of the character.
Zombie's Shape was purely intimidating, and for that reason alone I find the film entertaining. I could've definitely done without the first 30 or 45 minutes of Zombie's Halloween, but once Myers escaped from the institution I was perfectly happy with the results.
When I first saw Zombie's Halloween I was majorly let down, but I'll have to admit that the movie has grown on me quite a bit since then.
I've seen MUCH worse...

I can hardly believe comparisons are being made, whatsoever, between the original Halloween and Rob Zombie's remake.
I actually like Rob Zombie. I even like his music. I think he has good intentions. But the man does not understand Halloween. Myers derived from a serene suburban home. We require no backstory for Myers. His entire backstory was the fact that he came from an average family, and one night, out of nowhere, murdered his sister, and from that night on never spoke a word.
This is all we need know of Myers. This is what makes him the great, mysterious, impenetrable figure that he is.
Rob Zombie, \God bless his heart, for I do like him, failed to comprehend that singular, vital aspect of Myers. The fact that he can never be explained.
