Tales from the Crypt
      #59067 - 09/29/02 02:10 PM

Saw this film on Tv, a classic seventies film based on those wonderful EC Comics.the film is an anthology in 5 parts, which were taken from various EC titles.Yours truly especially liked the one where Joan Collins getīs to fight against Santa Claus, and the one where Peter Cushing comes back from the dead, for revenge. Cool little film, which leaves me wishing that i should have watched the Tales from the Crypt Tv-series, when i had the chance.

I think all the stories in Tales from the Crypt are great, which is what sets it apart from the rest (Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside etc) and is tied with Asylum as my all time fave collection of shorts. My favourite story from Tales from the Crypt is the last one in the home for the blind, everytime I think of that razor blade lined passage it gives me chills.

Yeah, the story about the blind people was good, a bit cruel perhaps, but still good.

Tales From the Crypt is probably my favorite of the Amicus films and that's a tough call, but as mentioned in an earlier post, all the stories in this particular anthology are fantastic. I'd love to see this receive a DVD release, is it available in any region, at the moment?

Not yet.

Tales is also my favourite Amicus film, there's something uniquely special about it which raises it above the others. And yes, it is one of the few anthology films to not have one noticably weaker story (usually involving cats, normally black.)

There for a bit we were seeing several Amicus titles being released on DVD, but that pace has slowed down quite a bit, now.

If it's the 1972 film version, it's most definitely worth the price tag of, $6.99.

Recorded this movie onto disc just before xmas, it was screened late on BBC1, very pleased to see it was the uncut version for once. Five more creepy stories from Amicus, brilliant.

The Tales

1 And All Through The House
2 Reflection Of Death
3 Poetic Justice
4 Wish You Were Here
5 Blind Alleys

This has been on my "must-see" list for far too long. Can't wait to rent this one! I'm looking most forward to And All Through The House since I loooove a good Christmas tale of terror.

Yeah that's a great story with the crazy santa, probably my fave in the film, although all stories are really good. The third tale with Peter Cushing is a bit sad. The picture he talks to of his wife, was actually a picture of his real wife (who had recentley passed away) this is something Cushing never really got over, he suffered with depression until his own death in the 90s. All fans of the Cush respect him for playing this part. He's a true legend.

I was able to get this on DVD+R and I am thrilled to have it on disc, as I about wore out my VHS. Out of curiosity, Pad, what has been edited out of the film? I wonder if I have an edited version or unedited version.

The scene that usually gets cut is in the story Wish You Were Here, the coffin scene where that guys intestines come out of his stomach. If you have this then it should be the full version. It's only a small thing i know but i used to get annoyed when the BBC cut it out. Glad they didn't this time.

Oh well, hopefully, someday, someone will gift all the Tales From the Crpyt fans and give us a nice, unedited DVD.

I was going to ask if they are going to release it on DVD. It seems hard to find. I was able to find it on Amazon but only on VHS and I don't have a VCR.

Deja vu. I'm sure we discussed this movie several years ago here. But don't get me wrong--I'm not complaining in any sort of way. Any new discussion of the 1972 Tales From the Crypt is just fine and dandy by me. It's a personal favourite of mine. I'd love to see a DVD release for it, hopefully with a whole shwack of extras (though that is probably asking too much for a movie of its age).

I just ordered Tales From The Crypt/Vault of Horror off of Deep Disoount...

Quick question what are all the Amicus Anthology Films? I haee Dr. Terror on order, I own House that Dripped Blood, and as said previously I just order Tales and Vault. Am I missing anything?

TALES THAT WITNESS MADNESS is not an Amicus film, although many sources mistakenly list it as one.

One you haven't mentioned so far is TORTURE GARDEN, available on DVD from Sony.

After Amicus broke up, Milton Subotsky produced the anthology films THE MONSTER CLUB and THE UNCANNY, which are very much in the Amicus tradition.

The Monster Club is interesting. I can't seem to get if it's a dark comedy (ala Corman's Tales of Terror) or not. The segues with Vincent Price would lend to the comedy aspect but I'm not certain.

I remember when I saw this when i was 6-8 years old. I was scared and i thought it was a really horror movie(s). javascript:void(0)
But now i can see that it's some kind of comedy/horror thing.
I love intro and music from this movie.javascript:void(0)
.
Before this summer, i bought a DVD with some shorts movies (something like creepshow). The title is "Campfire tales". Is it also "the tales from the crypt" or is it someting else?

Campfire Tales was its own film. Has nothing to do with Tales...
