I ended up watching part 2 as well (bedtime at 5 am, again? oh well...). That was definitely a good scare too.
I'm not a big fan of the whole pseudo-doco handheld style, especially since it's been done so many times now. However, these two films must be the best in the "genre". Pretty original take on what I guess is essentially the zombie genre too. The second one had some weird references to The Exorcist, that were maybe a bit on the campy side, considering how restrained the first one is.
On the whole I was very impressed, though, and I'll definitely be watching the upcoming sequels.

I loved the demonic addition. It's not like it came out of left field. The apartment at the end of the first film had plenty of clippings about a possessed girl. I, like most others, thought they had confused a "patient zero" zombie for being possessed, but it turns out she was. It was awesome. It had been done before, but poorly...

Glad you liked the REC and REC 2, Satirejohn. I'm usually not too big on the handheld film style either, but man, these REC movies kick some ass!

Yeah, I liked the whole idea of it turning into more of a demon thing, which I agreewas already somewhat apparent in the first one. I definitely saw some Evil Dead references in the first, which were nice. It's just that the second had some scenes almost ripped directly from The Exorcist - like the possessed dudes talking about "your mothers cunt" and stuff like that. It's a very minor complaint, though.
I watched Quarantine last night, and I thought it pretty much sucked. Had very little of the suspense from [REC]. The demons/zombies were even much less scary looking. And they took out some of the best part, and copied a lot of the other bits shot for shot and word for word.

Granted, I didn't watch [REC] and Quarantine back to back, but I thought Quarantine was about as close to a remake mimicking an original movie as I've ever seen. I thought the quality was pretty equal all the way through. Had I seen Quarantine first I think I would have liked it just as well.

Oh, I'm definitely going to be checking this out at some point. Too curious to do otherwise. Hate I'm hearing poor reviews. I generally like the plane idea.

Quarantine 2 is just another movie from what I saw of it, but I admittedly haven't finished it yet.
I did finally finish Phenomena, though...

Last night I finally got off my lazy ass and went down to Blockbuster and rented Rec and Rec 2, glad I did, fucking fantastic. I like the demon aspect in the films, especially how they bring the demon stuff into the second one. Much better than the two Quarantines which just stick with the simpler and common infected story. The Recs were actually scary in some parts. Which was a nice change for this desenitised horror junkie. I'm pumped to see Rec 3 and 4, I'll see them in the theater and/or on dvd.
Edit: Hey I just noticed, its my 500th post, alright.

Glad you liked them! They are indeed awesome and I'm still anxiously looking forward to parts 3 and 4.

I haven't managed to find a torrent of Rec 3 yet, but a friend of mine said it was really dissapointing. I will of course watch it anyway when I find it, though.
Anyone here seen it yet?

I haven't seen any of the [REC] films yet. I'll eventually get around to seeing them at some point.
