I was looking forward to this movie for a few months and finally got to see it this evening. Many of you know I'm a huge George Romero fan, so I don't need to tell you that I appreciate the original version of The Crazies. With that being said, I feel that this remake was more "necessary" than most. I say this because the original, although a decent film, is not without flaws and isn't well known outside of the horror community.
I feel that this new version of The Crazies is far less polished than most modern retellings, and that's cool to see from a major release these days. I know that some horror fans will hate it just because it's a remake, but I enjoyed it. It's far from perfect, but it does hold it's own. My major complaint is that the film becomes slow on more than one occasion. This could've been avoided by trimming 10 or 15 minutes of footage from the final product.
I hope there'll be an unrated version that I can add to my growing Blu Ray collection...

Yes, can't wait to see this one. Good reviews all around so far from what I've seen.

Not big on remakes, but I am curious about this one. I'll be sure to check it out eventually I am sure, though most likely not in the theater.

I caught it on opening night, and I actually enjoyed the hell out of it. Not quite as political as Romero's original, but definatley entertaining as fuck, absolutley one of the best horror remakes as of late.

Agreed. I was entertained, but I still feel that the film slows down dramatically on too many occasions. The slow points only slightly detract from an otherwise enjoyable movie, but they are present.
The last 15 minutes or so were excellent...

I never got a chance to see the original version of this, so the remake would be new to me. However my cinema boycott is still going strong. Missing edge of darkness kind of hurt thouh cause Mel is my man love, or so the women in my life like to say.

I really enjoyed The Crazies. It is one of the better horror films in sometime. Was it great? No, but for what it is worth, I will be adding it to my collection when it comes out on DVD. I enjoyed it much more that The Last House on the Left remake, but than again, the orginal LHOTL was much better that the original The Crazies in my humble opinion.

I really enjoyed THE CRAZIES. I knew it was going to be a well made movie (being a Hollywood production), but I was surprised by how effective it was. Unlike most remakes (LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and HILLS HAVE EYES aside), there was a very real sense of dread that had me tense through the whole film. The film also benefited from a solid cast. Seriously, I can't think of a single weak link of the bunch. I haven't seen the original myself, but this was a solid film. Will definitely pick this up on DVD.

Wow. I hate to say I loved a remake, but I did. If all remakes were this good I would have nothing to bitch about. I can't wait for the dvd now.
