I personally thought the horror tribute was kinda lame. I know that they have to use films that appeal to the mass audience and all but they were using clips from Beetlejuice for crying out loud. I could put together a better montage using an iPhone and YouTube.
And yeah, the whole show was pretty disapointing but I cracked up at the Paranormal Activity gag. that was funny!
AHH COME ONNNNNN!!!!
Clips of Evil Dead 2 at the Oscars!!! Great clip that I enjoyed!!!
I didnt watch the whole thing...Im just glad *The Dude* won an Oscar...About damn time.....

I am glad to see my friend Bob Murawski with his wife Chris Innis win for The Hurt Locker. Bob is the genius behind Grindhouse Releasing which has brought such classics to DVD as Cannibal Holocaust, Pieces, I Drink Your Blood, and Cat in the Brain. He was the film editor on Army of Darkness and all 3 Spiderman movies. He is very talented and a hardcore horror fan.
This is one Oscar that is very well-deserved.
I agree with CT it was great to see a friend win a Oscar and someone who has given so much to the horror community. I will never forget Bob and I struggling to get the BetaSP deck to work at CULTCON trying to play the the rought cut of VAN BEBBERS CHARLIES FAMILY only to figure out that it was a PAL tape so eveyone had to watch the film in double speed, or him consuling Antonella Fulci at the hotel bar after she got so upset at the animal violence in CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. He aslo edited DRAG ME TO HELL and the classic John Woo/Van Damme movie HARD TARGET

CULTCON brings back some great memories. One of the best cons I ever attended. I love chatting with Robert Kerman about his wonderful porn career, as well as, seeing Daemonia perform live. Matt didn't you and David Hess have a run in there?
Good Times.

It's nice to see people get awards and recognition for good work. But award shows like the Oscars make me a little nauseous. All the glitz and glamor is just way too phony for my liking. And just the thought Doogie Howser doing song and dance makes the hair on the back of my neck stand straight up. I did however watch the Horror tribute, and thought it was fucking amazing! I couldn't believe they actually put something so visually stunning and thought provoking together. If I never see another horror tribute again, I'll die a happy man.
Nah. It sucked. I'm sure anyone on this board could have done a better job. Any takers?

My thoughts on the Oscars:
1) They mentioned that the horror genre hadn't been prominent in the Oscars since THE EXORCIST won some awards way back when. This is not true! Doesn't anyone remember THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS winning best picture in the 90's?? And one can't say that's not horror.
2) Quentin Tarantino has been screwed over twice with two clear masterpieces. Pulp Fiction should have won best picture instead of Forrest Gump and now The Inglorious Bastards should have won best picture as well. (Havent seen HURT LOCKER yet but I can't imagine a film being better than Basterds this year... but if I am wrong forgive me) Quentin is brilliant and I know he will wow us all with a third masterpiece and that better win best picture or The Academy is definatively biased or has something against Tarantino.
3) The Horror Montage was great, Im glad they included the old Hollywood Monsters, if they would have forgotten that ... oh boy what sort of world would we be living in.
4) Farrah Faucet ????????? How hard is it to have a list of those who dies and simlpy add the names n clips in. You say they forgot?? Come on...
5) ROGER CORMAN RULES!!

Y'know, I didn't think Bastards was Oscar material... expect for Christoph Waltz's performance. And still can't believe he won it, how awesome.

I like that they did it. Still, just feels fishy. Some of the choices they made are sorta throwing me. For instance they showed at least two Leprechaun clips. Leprechaun... really? I'm wondering, is that just a polite bow to Aniston? And then that lenghty 10 second snip-it of Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby. Running Man with Hoffman. Edward Scissorhands with Depp. Maybe I'm just being jaded, eh??? After all, they did pass up Kevin Bacon in Friday the 13th.
BTW, nice seeing you back Ghoul!
EDIT - Damn, I just re-watched that horror tribute and they DID include that F13 scene with Bacon. ROFL!

What's especially egregious is that they claimed that The Exorcist was the last horror movie recognized by the Oscars--then proceeded to include several clips from Silence of the Lambs in their so-called "horror movie" tribute.
Sorry, Acadamy bitches--you can't have it both ways. I know you don't want to say that a horror movie won all of your major awards--best movie, best director, best actor, best actress--but it DID. You proved it yourself by including several clips from Silence of the Lambs in your horror movie tribute.
Thank you, Academy Awards, for legitimizing the horror genre and simultaneously establishing your hypocrisy.

No I never got into it with David Hess. If I remember correctly he did say something to either Bruce H or Mike from Factory 2000. I just remembered getting drunk with Van Bebber with Mike and running through the back bah mitzha that was going on yelling satan rules with the two on them right at the end of the convention

Okay, now I'm beginning to feel like I've missed out on something.
