you know whats really gross, i was watching House by the Cemetery, in my room, and something in my room smelled rotten, probably old food or something, and I almost threw up watching that!

The thing is with a question like this is Gory sometimes isnt gross . For example gross is the realism of the effect as in for example AFTERMATH which is gory but gross so it works on the grisly level.
Whereas something like BONE SICKNESS or for a better example DAS KOMABRUTALLE DUELL or whatever the fuck its called is gory as shit...but it looks so phoney watery and unlife like it just doesnt work.
Alway recall people calling Romeros DAWN OF THE DEAD gory and me thinking Nah ! it ain't thats because to me Savini's blood ( and he admits this ) just looks crap.

Great point. Sometimes more realistic is more dissturbing than more gory. Most times actually.
