My movies
      #146404 - 02/15/10 12:28 PM

This short film was my conclusion work for college last year. It's not exactly horror, more of a contemplative and dreamlike mood piece with ghostly undertones. A phantasmagorical romance movie, if you will. It's based on the Black Hair segment from Kwaidan, and it's heavily influenced by J-Horror. It was all done on a shoestring budget. It was a lot of work and although some things didn't work out the way we intended, I'm proud of it. I was responsible mainly for the cinematography, but I took part on the whole process. A friend of mine was the director/writer. It's in portuguese without subtitles, but there's hardly any dialogue in it and I think it's possible to understand the story without it. At least I hope so. Anyway, I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about it. Have at it (but be gentle ):

The other videos in my Vimeo page are just exercises I did for film school, nothing really special, but if you're in for a laugh take a look at "Kane". We had only a day or so to remake a scene from a movie of our choosing without any resources whatsoever and had to add our on twist to the whole thing. We chose the opening to Citizen Kane, went the humor route and sprinkled a little Re-animator into it. Check it out.

I tried to watch it twice, but wasn't able to. It froze within seconds both times. I don't know if the problem is on my end, or if the website was having issues.

I'll try again later...

Hmm... I don't know what's wrong. It plays just fine for me and it seems to work for other people as well, but I had someone else complain about not being able to play it a couple of days ago. I guess it could be the website having issues lately.

But anyway, thanks for the interest, man! I appreciate it!

Checked out both Cabelo Negro and Kane. Enjoyed them both. Though both are obviously different vibes you have some damn fine cinematography in each of them. Great job!

I try to be. I just got out of college and haven't been able to find work yet, but I'm looking. I'd love to find a position as an assistant to a more experienced director of photography or in color grading. I have a couple of independent projects lined up to be made with friends from my class who worked with me in that short and I'm developing a few of my own as well, this time with plans to write and direct myself. Just to build a portfolio of sorts. Hopefully I'll have a couple more shorts under my belt until the end of the year. I'm also trying to submit Cabelo Negro to a few horror short film festivals. If all else fails, I might try still photography or the academic life, but my goal is to keep making movies.

Top notch work, DyD. Fantastic work on the lighting and the perspectives. And the stop motion too. Really professional. Tip of the hat to your sound guy as well.

The hair effects were just sped up reverse motion, actually. But I'll make sure your compliments reach the FX and sound guys! Thanks again!

I still can't give this a look. The problem has to be on my end.

I need a new computer. I'm off, to Walmart I go!
