I've made a conscious decision to never go to a movie theatre again.

I thought AVATAR was like most of Cameron's other films - AVERAGE!!

I think the original Terminator and ALIENS are classics. BUT everything else is just OK. Now I know it has it's fans but T2 is basically just a big budget but not as good remake of T1. Titanic was just teenage girl silly, and True Lies had some moments but was bloated and dull. The Abyss had a great begining but started to die in the 2nd act and kicked the bucket in the end. He just does not do much for me.

My biggest problem with AVATAR is not the weak script but the super Waek one dimentinal villians. A film is only as good as it's Villian and this Villian was average at best. Just like all of Cameron's other films.

Yes the effects were great but because I was basically just watching Cartoon action scenes and had poorly done villians the last 20 or 30 min of the film had me board to tears.

Here is a review of AVATAR by the same guy who did the TPM review. It's GREAT - watch!

Well, I wholeheartedly disagree with you on T2. But some good points on the rest, good not great. The Abyss had alot going for it, but it was just crazy uneven. That film had some trouble deciding what it wanted to be.

The finale did kinda fall apart.

If you want to see an awesome film with real depth in the cinematography that's not 3D, check out a digital copy of Hitchcock's North by Northwest. It's just stunning to look at the whole way thru.

I actually really enjoyed Avatar. The visuals were so stunning and well put together that this was the first 3D movie I've seen where it truly immersed me in the world on the screen and didn't feel like a cheap gimmick. I generally consider myself pretty desensitized to special effects but there were some scenes that just blew me away. To me, that's James Cameron's greatest strength; he creates these brilliant worlds that feel so natural that they just pull an audience in.

As for the story, I definitely won't say it was one of the best this year, but it was still pretty good. It's been taking a lot of flak for the lack of depth but I don't consider simple to be bad. Simple makes a story easy to convey so that it reaches more people than an overly deep one. A good example of this is the Academy Awards. There has been on a huge downward slide in its ratings this past decade largely because they've given so much focus to these super complex, pretentious films that most people either don't understand or don't care enough to put in the effort required to get all the underlying themes. It's good to see a simple story getting so much attention.

The reason that Cameron has been such a huge success isn't that he's a literary genius, it's that he has a way of sharing his vision with his audience like few other directors can.

Yeah I knew that my T2 comments would bother someone. I don't hate T2 and I think the extended version is a much better film. I just feel it's an overrated films IMO. Much like most of Cameron's work. But I know it has it's fans and thats why I don't come down on it to hard. Plus like I said I thought it was much improved with the extended shots put back in. Love John Conner teaching the T-800 to smile

It did not help that the Guns and Roses video "You could be mine" spoiled so many of the T-1000 effect scenes. That video came out like two weeks before the film itself came out. It got me so pumped for the film but when I saw it in theaters I was let down that there was nothing really new to see after viewing that video and all the trailers. Plus T1 is an all time fav. of mine. So I was bound to be let down.

I tend to agree with you about T2 being a bit overrated, Jaws. While I certainly consider it to be an excellent film (one of my favorites), I do believe that the first Terminator was much better. Everything was just so well put-together and the atmosphere was so perfect that I really think T1 is Cameron's best work.

Thought I was in the minority with T2. I remember being quite let down with it. I certainly liked it and still do, just not as impressed as all of my friends at the time. T1 easily takes it.

My all-time favorite T1 moment:

"Sarah Connor?"
"Yes?"
BANG!
