I've recently stumbled across some websites that allow you to take audio clips from YouTube and convert them into mp3 files (which you can then save on your computer, put on your iPod, etc). I'm assuming this isn't completely legal, so does anyone know how these websites can exist? I'll admit to converting a few songs the other night (mainly just music from a few different video games, yes I am a huge nerd ), so should I expect the FBI to kick down my door next week or not?

It's not legal, but the blame would go back to the sites and not to you, unless they have a disclaimer informing you it is illegal.

The website I was using does have a "terms of service" to read over. The English isn't the best, as the site must be non-American, but the gist of it is that you are responsible for the files you convert and to be mindful of the laws where you live (though it doesn't really flat-out say "this is illegal.")
Misfit, do you know how sites like this keep from getting shut down (since I was able to find this one in about two seconds on Google)? I don't plan to abuse it or convert hundreds of songs from YouTube for free, I mainly just want to save songs that aren't available on CD (like the video game stuff I was converting the other night) onto my computer. Am I taking a legal risk by ripping songs from, say, old Nintendo games off of YouTube (because if so, then I will quit doing it).

If you want to convert the vids to mp3's of higher quality, visit www.dvdvideosoft.com...

This one works great. Have downloaded a ton of files via this little program.

I downloaded it too and it's nice. Like I said in my last post, I'm not looking to rip hundreds of songs off of YouTube, but for the stuff that I am looking for, it works quite well.

LOL, yeah sorry, I should have said thanks. I guess I was trying to be hush hush about downloading it but finally figured it would be odd if I didn't reply at all.
And EdgarAllen, I haven't experienced any problems so far.

I was just joking, man. Hope you enjoy it. Personally, I use it to snag live performances that aren't available anywhere else. As far as I know, that's legal....as long as you aren't making money from it or distributing the material.

As I stated, much past use and success with dvdvideosoft.com. HOWEVER, Recently Youtube ussues are causing me headaches. Vides either: *load immediately *Take a minute or so to load, with no load circle on vid screen - just a lotta nothing or *Take 10-20 secs to load with load circle on vid screen.
This is only on my XP system. I only recently updated to latest IE version, wondering if this has something to do with it.
These vids that take time to load, while watchable are not downloadable any longer with dvdvideosoft. Any of you fine folks having any issues with Youtube?
