That's a good point. Keeping in mind how old it is though I still have to say I find it extremely overrated. Growing up in the mid-90s before really getting into horror I watched this and I remember just being real unimpressed. Some scenes were really good but every time I started to get into it they had those goofy cops show up to pull me out.

I wouldn't say I didn't like it because it wasn't shocking at the time I watched it, I just thought the movie could have been a lot more but was poorly executed.

Been away for a spell, but hey thats life.

So I figure I would bump this thread, and perhaps ruffle some feathers at the same time, by reinstating that this movie is STILL the most overrated and dissappointing piece o turd I have ever seen!!

I don't care much for it either...

Read Uncle Ash's thread...

The common sentiment among Horror fans is that Last House on the Left is over-rated..

I don't think so. True, some horror fans have strong opinions about it being overrated. But most I find think the movie works pretty well.

Plus, it works on more than just one level. That's surely one of the reasons for its' reputation. A person could just find it scary or dark, or they could see it is an ambitious social commentary. Even if it doesn't work in some people's opinions who can't see how the references to violence and puberty, among many others, add to the film, than they have to admit it's extremely well-edited and paced.

Seriously, if these horror fans you're refering to who find it overrated, are only saying this because they think Haute Tension was really brutal and Last House can't compete, or something like that... Then, is their opinion actually worth taking into account?

I didn't find it very impressive either the first time I saw it but I loved the style. And it's not really a stylish film. However, re-watching it proved that a viewer can see things they didn't see before. When I did, keeping certain things in mind, I began to understand it better. And knowing what to expect from it is important. Plus, I watched this with someone who actually started to cry during Mari's death. I don't care what anyone says, a movie with that kind of power could never be overrated. Give it time and be patient with it - that's all I can say.

I am too lazy and apathetic to have this debate again. I will simply refer to the previous thread.

"Seriously, if these horror fans you're refering to who find it overrated, are only saying this because they think Haute Tension was really brutal and Last House can't compete, or something like that... Then, is their opinion actually worth taking into account?"

If you think Me, Freaky, Ash or Danger fall into that category you are deeply mistaken...

Ha. Just because the general consensus here is that it's overrated doesn't mean that's what you'll find if you cruise every horror board. Or even most horror boards.

Not necessarily, at least.

And this doesn't have to be a debate. I don't need to debate anything, I just deserve to be heard.

I hate being in the majority, but I have to agree that it is overrated. Take solace in the fact that, maybe five or six years ago, someone made a thread concerning this movie, and my negative opinion was certainly in the minority (by far). It all depends on who is and isn't active at this board at a particular time.

To be honest, I just don't dig Wes Craven at all. I got shit for that opinion five or six years ago, and I'm prepared to receive shit for it now.

You'll get no shit from me. I enjoy a couple of Craven's movies, but for the most part I don't care for his work...

FUCK THAT NOISE MUTHA FUCKER'S.

This movie is not over-rated, dated? YES! Over-rated, fuck no. Just because some of us here have seen exploitation films that involve people getting their eye's gouged out, and being raped in their eyeholes right in front of the camera doesn't make this film over-rated.

DUMB COPS, and robbers antics aside, the true emotion of this film resides in the parents, and taking revenge for the terrible crimes that were commited the only a few hours beforehand.

If you can't vibe with a bruised and beaten father taking a chainsaw to his daughter's killer in the privacy of his own home then you must be really fucking hard to impress.

I'm going to spell it out really simple:

There's a part in LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. where krug forces one of the women to piss her pants. She does so. Then she makes her cut, and beat up her own friend at knife point only to be stripped naked and forced to have sex with eachother, a sweet little virgin 16 year old. Just a mile from her own house.

Now let's see how much of that type of shit makes it into the new iteration of this CLASSIC film. HARD R my balls.

I have to admit, the trailer for the remake is one of the best cut trailers I've ever seen. That Sweet Child O' Mine cover gave me goose-bumps. It actually makes me want to see it, granted I'm not too fond seeing the daughter 'undead' in this one.

Great movie for its time, quite shocking in fact for its time and many years after.Over the years its my believe it has lost much its edge, the acting rather medicore aside David Hess' performance as the leader of the savages which is the movies best asset. The rape scene is disturbing but now as I look at it the movie is largely overhyped now.So this once groundbreaking movie where does it belong?I would put on my top 100 list but if I was posed 15 years I might have put it on my top 10 list, that in itself says a lot.
