Hey, I have been hearing alot of good things about Battlestar Galactica. I went ahead and saw the 2 hour premier movie and found it lacking. They say its the darkest scifi drama. should I look further into it ? I just might netflix the first season. I need a good scifi drama in my diet.

Everyone around me loves it, I did the exact same thing you did, watched the premiere and fell asleep.. they say it gets much better.. and I'm inclined to believe them, I will catch up on them when I have time.

Believe me, don't judge the series based on the 2 hour mini series. I thought the exact same thing as you about it but I continued to watch it and it turned out to be one of the greatest shows on tv.
It's got great characters and an engaging plot. After watching season 1 you will be hooked.

Darkest scifi drama = Blakes 7. I like Galactica, it has this weird patern that it follows. The season will start out solidly good and then it will go some direction that seems like its going downhill or at the very least nowhere. Then in the last four or five episodes it will turn out that its been building up to something great and I will love it again. In my case at least, its done that with every season.
Otherwise in terms of dark SciFi series I would rank it third behind Blakes 7, Galactica's darkest episode is about at the level of Blakes most light hearted one. Then Lexx which a lot of people have very mixed feelings about, but I love it. UFO is also probably on par when it comes to dark drama.

Searched for Blakes 7 on Netflix to no avail. I did however place the first season of Battlestar on my qeue at the top, so I should be getting it soon. Will report back on how it was.

Blakes 7 was a UK series, I dont think it's ever gotten a US VHS release and I know it was never put out on domestic DVD. UK box sets of its four seasons are out if you can play region 2 PAL DVD's they are worth picking up.
If you want to get an idea about the show check out:

Just watched the Avon vids. He seems like a particularly awesome character, no wonder they named a brand of women's cosmetics after him Since they never released a domestic version of that series, I guess looking for torrents wouldn't be much of a sin... Is that how it works?

Just saw the youtube clips of the show. Don't know what to think really. They were mostly humorous compilations. If they are as good as you say they are I will look for hopefullly some of the first season episodes.I'd like to see them in order if possible.
Im going hunting now, if ya know a place I could see them on the comp please let me know.

I'm a big fan of the new BSG. The series really doesn't find its sea legs until well into season 1. But season 2 is some of the finest sci-fi television ever. And as the story progresses it only gets darker and darker. It's a real exploration of the character's base, survival instincts coming into play as their refugee situations deteriorate and worsen with time and stress. Haven't seen any of the last season yet (season 4 I think?). I've been told by a couple of friends they haven't cared for this season's storyline but I haven't had the opportunity to judge yet.

Finished watching the first disc of the first season of Battlestar a while back. It does get more interesting, especialy the character development but it didn't satisfy. There are so many things to watch and so little time that one must be picky. I also checked out the first four episodes of Blakes 7 via torrent and it was more fun than I expected. Not sure if I will continue.
On the other hand I continue to collect and watch the X-files. I plan on seeing the whole series. Saw alot of it when it originaly aired. Superb show. And I remember one of the posters mentioning they like Kolchak. Chris Carter said that was an inspiration for the Xfiles.
So Battlestar, your a solid show ! But I must be moving on.

Edward James Olmos was a perfect choice, not only does he do a good job in his role but whenever they need a prop to do a close up on a crater covered moon they do closeups of his face.

Completely respect your opinion. But if you're on the fence at all about this show, I would encourage you to give the first 3-4 episodes of season 2 a go.

Agree with your comments on Olmos. I've been a fan of his since Miami Vice. Alot of the BSG casting is awesome. The guy playing Baltar is incredible.
