It's Alive Remake
      #137672 - 06/11/08 09:01 PM

The original IT'S ALIVE scared the hell out of me back in the day. Of course, I was like 9 years old or something at the time, but still. Anyway, looks like we can include this in the current tidal wave of reimaging coming from Hollywood. Here's a long trailer, but be warned, it seems to give quite a bit away as trailers these days seem wanton to do. Looks like they will be releasing this soon although I have not seen an official date yet.

"Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday."

As far as the trailer I didn't think it looked too horrible, but it's just hard to get excited about another rehash.

At the time they released the original it seemed like a pretty radical idea to me. Of course exploitation was all the rage then. Later I found a short story by Ray Bradbury that dealt with the same exact themes and it was published back in the 40's. Don't immediately remember title but it's an awesome book.

I watched Ray Bradbury Theatre quite a bit when I was a youngster, but I've never read a single Bradbury story. I love to read, but I just don't know which stories or authors are worth bothering with. I tried to get into Clive Barker's writing, but Mister B. Gone was so bad that I can't bring myself to buy anything else he's done. I know this sounds ridiculous, but books are too expensive for me. I have to drive an hour and a half to the nearest book store, and if I buy something that I don't like it ends up costing a hell of a lot of money for basically nothing. I know that amazon.com has pretty much every book EVER, but I despise buying anything online...

I've seen some of those too. Alfred Hitchcock Presents have done a few good episodes based on Bradbury stories. One is called The Jar and another centers around Mexico's El Día de los Muertos.

He's awesome IMO. Maybe my favorite Ray Bradbury short story (maybe my fav short story period) is Zero Hour. Highly recommend. I still can't remember the name of his story about paedophobia, but I'm keep thinking it's probably in The October Country collection.

Not being a smartass here, but do you have decent library? Most of what I read these days comes from there. There are about 13 libraries in my regional network and they rival some of the big city networks. Aside from Netflix, get most of my DVDs there too.

I live in a small town of about 3,000 people, so needless to say the library is quite lackluster. It's one small room with two aisles full of nothingness...

Wow, that is on the small side. My wife's hometown is about the same population. Otherwise it might be hard for me to imagine that. The town I grew up in is the smallest place I've lived and that was around 35,000 at the time. Anyway, alot of smaller libraries form co-ops with larger ones. Maybe that would be a possibility for your branch too. More realistically, there are rental services similar to Netflix that loan books for a monthly flat fee. If you consider the fact that new paperbacks are $8 per, that might be a good option.

Regardless of how, you gotta jump on some Ray Bradbury stories. Everything I've read by him has always been fun.

How can I get into contact with this netflix type service? I've also been thinking of getting one of these.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FI7...;pf_rd_i=507846 <--- Amazon Kindle

It's VERY expensive, but it would eventually pay for itself...

Since I'm not familiar with any of them I won't recommend a specific one, but Google for *book rental* and you're sure to get several options.

If Im not mistaken I believe Larry Cohen helped update the screen play for this remake. I dont know what thats worth really. I like the original. Actually I enjoy all of Cohen's movies. So if this movie does well can we expect remakes of Black Ceasar, Q the Winged Serpent and The Stuff?

I'm really shocked they are not releasing this remake for Halloween 08 in the states. Mayhap this is going straight to DVD??? Anyone know?

Cohen is awesome, and joking aside I would say any of these could be quite possible.

On a side note, I couldn't help but think of The Stuff when they were running all of that viral press for Cloverfield.
