I agree, he is an icon and the original Evil Dead is a classic for me. I don't care too much for the second and third installments, but that's just me. Just about only me, I think lol

But regardless of what I think of the sequels and most of the rest of his films I have to ask the question fairly, what's really new here? Is this really going to be any different than the remake which he had already approved of? Is that now the 'sequel'? I personally don't think this idea has a lot left to give other than its name. I'd much rather see him do something fresh. Like The Gift, which I thought was an exceptionally creepy thriller.

edit: I've realized with this and the comments I made about R. Zombie in another thread I probably come of as rather negative and trollish. Sorry, I'm not very good with this forum stuff sometimes, and my opinions can often diverge from public opinion. Well, I guess now I'll defend myself against such a scathing accusation.

The same can be said about remakes. Have you ever complained about those? No one does know for sure before they see it for themselves. I'm just basing my opinion on the fact that Raimi hasn't made a good straight horror movie since the first ED. He's chose to take that straight horror classic and turn it into first a horror/comedy and then a horror/comedy/sword & sorcery something or other. Not to mention, I think his recent output sucks too.

So I consider it shallow to accept that just because it comes from Raimi it's gold or even has the potential to be gold. I want something new from someone new. And if that's shallow, I guess I'm shallow.

So don't sling mud you picked up from your own backyard. It will always end up back where it came from.

First of all my comment wasn't scathing or degrading in any way. I simply stated the obvious. When you've heard NOTHING in regard to a movie's details and automatically call it shit that IS shallow. Like it or not, it's a fact. Now on to your "slinging mud you picked up from your own backyard" comment about my complaining about remakes.

You've been here for how long? A week? Maybe a week and a half? How can you say that I've complained about remakes? I don't bitch and moan about remakes, and I never have. If you want to dig through almost a thousand of my posts to read some in which is said things like "I don't understand why everyone bitches about remakes" or "Some of these remakes aint bad" or "Zack Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead is a classic in it's own right" feel free to.

One last thing:

If you're going to come to a horror forum and talk shit about Sam Raimi and his Evil Dead series most people are going to disagree with you. In case you didn't notice he and several of his films are held in pretty high regard by almost every horror fan.

So, take it how you will, but if you're going to argue about things you're completely in the dark about that is SHALLOW...
