Pieces (1982)
      #138258 - 07/30/08 09:33 PM

A search didn't find a topic for this one and since I just found out Grindhouse Releasing will be unleashing the first official DVD on Oct 3rd I thought it would be a good time. Personally I love this movie. Brimming with absurdity, outrageous gore, brain-stabbing dialog, nudity and a general air of sleazy tastelessness I can't see how anyone couldn't like it, but I like a lot of crap.

The plot is quite thin of course. At the start of the film a boy's mother finds him putting together a nudie puzzle and slaps the shit out of him. So he hacks mommy up, blames it on a mysterious intruder and grows up obsessed with naked women and jigsaw puzzles. From here on it's sort of standard slasher material, except for the kung fu fight. The gore really stands out though with a woman chainsawed in half and a murder on a waterbed that plays seemingly intentionally like a porno money shot.

Put your brain in idle for this one.

Been a long while since I've seen this one. The thing that always stands out to me is the bizarre, mayhap supernatural, ending that really didn't mesh with the rest of the film. Maybe they just threw that in there for kicks or maybe they thought that might lead into a sequel or something. I did enjoy this one though.

Welcome aboard Grok.

Love this flick, one of the first films I ever added to my collection, actually this movie, and basket case WERE the first films I added to my collection.

I'll probably skip oN the DVD since I still have a good working tape, and I usually skip on DVD's unless they're packed with multiple discs and special features, and I wonder just what all they would have on this feature.

Either way, great film, love all the murders, and I'm with you 100% on that ending, just WTF is going on right? I love how they just freeze it, and let you bask in the final absurd moment of the feature.

I did a write up for this movie on the site about 5 years ago. Here's the link.

There's no way Grindhouse is releasing this bare bones. I heard they shot footage at the New Beverly in L.A. during Eli Roth's "Pieces" screening to be included on this disc.

I've never seen it, but always wanted to. I passed on a bootleg copy a few months ago knowing that Grindhouse was going to do it justice in the near future.

HEE HEE, I get turned on every time that sexy chick in track pants gets split in two..k a little freaky, oh yea? and is that bluto or what??? lol.

Love the pool scene as well, I just never imagined toting a chainsaw around to be so "appliable".

Grindhouse releases are always comprehensive but they have a strange understanding of near future...

Awesome trashy pile of low-budget nonsense, I loved every minute of it. Especially the Oscar-worthy moment (ouch there goes my sarcasm gland again) where the main lady character, upon finding the corpse in the locker room, raises her arms to the heavens and screams "baaaastaaaaard" several times

And also, obviously, the amazingly random "what-the-fuck!?!?" ending...

What's this talk about the movie never having been released on DVD, though? I personally own a cheap-ass, VHS-quality DVD that I bought in a reputable, non-black-market store. Its from Brentwood.
