Microsoft Back-Peddling on Warranty?
      #137836 - 06/28/08 10:55 AM

So, I finally get a game I want to tear deep into (NGII) and of course my second elite red rings itself. Third XBOX 360 altogether. Now I'm alright with the whole XBOX nuking itself thing, because quite frankly I'm not interested in the other systems.

However, when my last 360 RRoDed on me, they replaced it with a new system, and told me that my warranty started anew from that point on, which was supposedly 3 years. Now this new system nukes less than a year later, and I call and start going through the whole process again.

So they tell me on the phone that I'm out of warranty, and that I need to pay them 99 dollars for the repair, and that it's pretty much like getting a new xbox for 100 dollars, and I'm like "whoa buddy, I should still be well under warranty" and he tells me that my purchase date reads 08/07/07 so that I should be under warranty, which that date is when I had to get the new one sent to me.

they bump me up to a supervisor, and he tells me the warranty that is given after your system is sent back repaired is only 90 days, so I explain to him how they told me 3 freaking years, and how unhappy I am, yet since the computer says that 08/07/07 date, I should still be covered in the original warranty.

So through all this hassle, they finally agree to send me a send back box, and get a free repair for the system. Harmless mistake, and glitch in the system, or backpeddling on their warranty and RRoD problems? All I know is that neither of my elite's have lasted over a year, and I don't heavily game on them.

So we'll see if I climb to number four by this time next year.

I feel your pain buddy. I've went through it on three seperate occasions myself, and I'm not entirely confident that it won't happen again. The XBox 360 console is trash, and this R.R.O.D. bullshit isn't exclusive to older consoles. I know a dozen people that own a 360, and only one of them has never had their console fail.

I will send my console in every time it decided to quit working just because I've already paid for it, but I'll never buy another Microsoft console in the future...

That really sucks man, they really need to step up right now, PS3 has absolutely nothing going for it but if MS let's customer dissatisfaction continue enough people may jump ship to make them lose their second place standing.

The only good news is that there is now a price drop in effect.

supposedly the Xbox 360 Pro bundle will now be selling for $299, the Elite for $349, and supposedly the Arcade for $249.

Think I may try for an elite this christmas.

I love my Wii, but I've been thinking lately about getting a PS3 or 360 at some point in the not too distant future. I've been leaning towards the 360 since I can get it for $120 cheaper than a PS3 (or $150 cheaper once the price cut takes effect), but man, horror stories like this really scare me about the Xbox 360.

I wouldn't buy a 360 if they were $150.00. They're junk. Take it from someone who's had to send one in for repairs numerous times. Their product sucks, their tech support sucks and there's no end to the hardware failure problem in sight.

Arguments can be made about the wealth of great games for the 360, but when the console stops working every couple of months you don't get time to play most of them...

XBOX 360 = TRASH

UPDATE!

So I recieved my replacement console 2day, which was REALLY fast, I believe it took them less than a week to get my system back, however, they just straight up replaced the system with a new one again, and gave me a month of live, as if that's gonna do anything.

So I plug everything up, and decide to go find a cheap copy of CALL OF DUTY 2 since I recently went to the D Day Museum down here, and was really feeling the whole WW2 thing again, can't wait for WORLD AT WAR by the way, the pacific campagin should be amazing, if they can do like the HONEYCOMB warfare of IWO JIMA, and shit like that, the whole face, to face combat. mmm mmm good.

Anyhow, I go home and start to play my copy of COD2, and 10 minutes in the screen pixel's up on me and locks up, turn it off, and go back to it later with LOST ODDYSEY, get about 10 minutes in, and same thing.

I unplug the system, cause I'm already definitely calling XBOX cause this is just pathetic, and I can hear something bouncing around inside the system, like a loose chip or something. So I call, deal with the whole tech support thing AGAIN...and now have to send this XBOX back to me.

Also, for a "so called" NEW system, one side of this system shows some odd "scrubbing" wear? And I kind of question how "NEW" this one actually was.

Oh well, here we go again...

This time it actually sounds like it got damaged in shipping, it was probably shipped insured, so I would call MS and tell them it was damaged in shipping and they will either get you a new one out the door, or have UPS give you the money directly.

I'm not going to get too excited for the new Call of Duty.. let's put it this way.. Infinity Ward made call of Duty, they made Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4. They have other studios that Activision forces them to let them milk the franchise a bit that did Big Red One(which sucked a big red one), and Call of duty 3, as bad as COD3 was IW threw a fit and has taken the ability for them to label their COD games with numbers beside them so that consumers don't confuse them with the high quality games IW makes.

World at War is the next bastardization in the series, not a new COD game.. I mean it could be that magical moment where it actually comes out good.. but I'll think the worst for now so if it is good, it's just a nice surprise.

Yea, it very well could have gotten damaged in shipping, I gave them the whole rundown of what had happened, And also just pretty much said:

"you just sent me a replacement xbox and this one is malfunctioning straight out of the box"

they'll be doing the whole shipping box/repair center thing again, that I just got done doing, and explained that to my call center help 3 times, yet he still explained it to me like I knew nothing of the process.

As for WORLD AT WAR, I do know about TREYARCH and the COD's that they've handled. I was a huge fan of COD2 dunno why I traded it in, I rented COD3 for 1 day, didn't really dislike it, but never delved into it! I might now, if I can find it for like 10 bucks like I did COD2.

Loved COD4 excellent game, but I guess I'm not burnt out on the whole WW2 stuff like others who probably played a lot more WW2 shooters. And I think there IS promise in COD5 however, we will have to wait and see.

I feel your pain man. I'm scared to turn my XBox 360 on most of the time. It's been repaired/replaced 4 times now, and one of those times it was malfunctioning right out of the box.

I stand behind what I said in my last post...

Don't worry man. They'll send you another piece of shit 360 when they get around to it, and if you're lucky it'll last a week or so.

You know, I think this thread (among other things) has pretty much scared me off from buying a 360. Though at this point I've told myself not to buy anything until Resident Evil 5 is out, which I think isn't until March of 2009. Hopefully the PS3 will have gone down some by then.

EA is making a $600 Crysis branded PC, something to consider as it tends to get games from both systems, and they usually turn out better. DMC4 on PC blew the crap out of both versions at half the price, RE5 will as well as PC is the lead platform on both games, they find it costs them half the money if they just design a game on PC then port it to 360 and PS3.
