X-Files follow-up film due out this summer. Looks like this one will be less sci-fi more horror/suspense based. Anyone going?

For some reason I never got very involved in this show. I didn't hate it or anything, some of them are pretty good. And I loved it's primary predecessor The Night Stalker. But it was never one of those things that I had to see every week. That being said, I generally liked the non-alien episodes as much as the little green men ones.
The new film seems to be taking alot of flak for NOT being an alien invasion story and looking cheap. There were no effects shots in the trailer I watched earlier today, but frankly if the story and the suspense are there, I would certainly forgive such an oversight. Also, maybe they're just not giving away all the best parts of the film in the trailer (what a unique idea, maybe it'll catch on ). Can't help but suspect the success of this film is a gauge to decide if the fan base is still willing to come out and support this franchise before sinking a $100 million into another effects soaked alien plot.
Either way, I want to see it but I'm pretty stingy with my theater visits these days, this will most likely be a rental for me.

I'm with you on this man. I was never wrapped up in the series, and I think that they've waited too long for this movie. I'm sure it will do fine at the box office, but had it been released 5 or 6 years ago it would've definitely made more cash. X-Files is nowhere near as popular as it once was...

I used to watch a few X-files episodes back when the show was still running but never really got into it. This past winter break I was really bored though and borrowed season 1 from a friend and I've been burning through the seasons ever since. The DVDs have given me the chance to watch it in chunks rather than a weekly basis and I think that might be the reason I enjoy it so much now.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing this movie now...just have to finish watching all the seasons before it comes out!

Trailer
I was a huge X-files fan, but I was in it more for the tales of men who could stretch themselves out and go through grates, and murdering sasquatch. When it came to the whole UFO government coverup and abductions plot it really lost my interest (which is where the movies tend to not have my interest).
Many of the writers moved on to write for "Supernatural" which gives me what I want, investigating strange earthly events.

Same, the "monster of the week" episodes were so much more interesting than the main storyline, especially in later seasons when the UFO conspiracy dragged on for far too long. I don't know which category it falls in but the episode with Alex Trebek and Jesse Ventura has got to be one of my absolute favorites.
From what I've heard this new movie has nothing to do with aliens though so I have high hopes we're going to get a good flick.
On a sidenote, I'm really curious to see how they explain how Mulder and Scully went from being highly sought after fugitives to solving X-Files again.

That's another thing, I am way behind on what happened toward the end of series when Mulder was abducted and Robert Patrick came on board as a fill-in. Can someone offer a quick and dirty synopsis?
