Have a question for all of you out there. I'm getting a new TV for my birthday. I'm Finally making the jump to HDTV. My parents and I are splitting the cost and they found one at a decent price. It's a Vizio 32" VW32L. My question is this, is it any good? Or does anyone out there own a Vizio already and have any comments on them? Just curious. The price is right, and it's not too huge (even though I would love to be able to afford and have the room for a 50" plasma). Sorry bout the back story. Let me know your opinions. Thanks to everyone in advance.

One thing I do notice in looking through it's brochure is that it flat out lies.
it claims to be 1080i but in the next paragraph lists it's resolutions..
Supported TV Formats 1080i, 720p, 720i, 480p, 480i
High resolution 1366 X 768 pixels wide screen - 16:9 ratio
it claims the highest resolution it can do is 1366X768 which is only 720p (1920X1080 is 1080i) and that is a huge difference, that tells me it will take 1080i signals and claim to you that you are displaying them but won't be showing you true 1080, but it expects you to not know that.
Other than the dishonesty there, it looks like a decent set and 720p still looks very good (you are going to find any HD console like Xbox 360 or PS3 really are only giving you 640P when they claim 1080P, they just do the same thing to it this tv is doing, claim it's something it's not) and how good do they look? pretty good.
It has a built in tuner, is HDCP compliant, has HDMI connections, and the price is very good.
I'd say consider it's only $599 at Walmart, it's actually a pretty awesome deal, and the customer rating it is a full 5 stars so, go for it.

I'm also looking to buy a new TV but I unfortunately don't have the money to do it right now. From what I hear, Samsung is suppose to have the best TV's around right now and Sony comes in second. I hear the Vizio is quite good. I think Sony just put out something else thats suppose to be great but I can't remember the name. Just from looking around myself, I think you have to get a bigger TV if you want 1080i. It seems everything at Wal Mart that is 40in and lower is only 720. But if you think it looks good and its affordable I would go for it. And remember, everything always looks smaller in the store. I'm sure once you put the 32in in your house it will look a lot bigger.

one thing to be honest, if your tv is under 42-46" your eyes truely are not going to be able to see a difference between 720 and 1080.
it becomes mildly visible somewhere in the 46-50" range, even then just mildly. It's not until you get a projector and put it on a 7" screen that you truely see a big difference.

Well i got the TV today and hooked it up. I really like it, just curious though. Does anyone have any advice for optimal picture setup. I'm only running through component right now, cause I don't have a player with HDMI yet (that's next paycheck). Any advice?

Just dig around in the tv's setup options and see what you have to play with.. often times you can turn on black level enhancers and set the picture mode for movie/film which will make everything look better..
otherwise it should be pretty simple. Most everything out there just puts out 1080i so Component can handle that fine, You may find a PS3 or 360 puts out 1080p, but in reality everything they do is just 640p upscaled so there will be no difference between component and HDMI for those IMO. HDMI just rocks because it does both video and audio in that one neat tiny cable.
