I just finished reading this book a few weeks ago and was curious if anyone else here has read it. Its a Japanese novel that is kind of a modern day Lord of the Flies...in a nutshell, a corrupt and evil Japanese government randomly selects a middle school class every year, puts them on an island, and then forces them to kill each other until only one student remains.
Its not horror per se, but certainly horrific. I highly enjoyed it and it usually takes me forever to get through a book, but I flew through the 600+ pages pretty quickly.

I haven't read it, but I have eagerly been awaiting getting my hands the movie. It has quite a fanbase and I hear good things all the time.

The movie is really good, I didn't know it was a book. I've also heard rumors that an american version/remake is coming, hopefully they'll stay true to the original...

Yeah the book's actually a ton better in the film in my opinion... I wish there would be a better adaptation of it but I doubt Hollywood is capable of it.

I've heard the same thing. I looked up some footage of the movie on YouTube and some people were posting comments along the lines of "Cool movie, but the book is way better."

The movie is Japanese with English subtitles so sometimes a lot is lost in the translation and it comes across as corny.

I read this book one winter, and recieve the film for christmas, and literally finished the book, in time to watch the movie that night, and it was awesome.
The book does fill in a lot more aspects, such as what was going through the fat kid with the crossbow's mind, lots of alternate takes, more involvement with the kids making the bomb. And also more of the female.
The movie does a great job with coverage of the events, casting, and is just all around bad ass. Even if they didn't have something in the film, they did a good job of at least hinting at it, such as the one chick with the two dead naked boys in the trees. That is a few chapters I believe. I'm going to have to read this again, and watch it again as well.
I want the iron wreath with BR SURVIVAL PROGRAM tattooed on my arm. anyone else game? lol.

HA HA! I wish! I really would love to get that tattoo, and could come up with the money, I just never get around to it. But if someone else was going to get it too, It might light a fire in me to get off my ass and do it.
