Trailers
Man, this movie was not even on my Radar, I've always been a comic fan but the idea of an Iron Man movie just never really made my ears perk. But after seeing both of the trailers it's becoming my most anticipated movie on 2008..
To my knowledge Jon Favreau has never really done an action movie before but it looks like he was born to do this. I can not wait to see this film.

I'm with ya man. I've heard nothing but good things about Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. when it comes to Iron Man. The special effects look amazing. I'm counting the days until this one is released. Marvel has been pushing Iron Man as a major character for the past couple of years and now it looks like people have been paying attention. The character of Iron Man is diverse, Tony Stark the millionaire playboy alcoholic government official with WAY too much power "plenty of potential for a wide range of storytelling".

this still feels like a rental to me, though the special effects do look awesome. I'm just not sure yet on it.

I loved the trailer. I've never been particularly interested in those Hollywood superheroe flicks, but that one has got me somewhat excited.
I was afraid they weren't gonna use the Black Sabbath song anywhere in the movie and it's promotion (kinda like how the Spiderman flicks never used the awesome Ramones Spiderman song), but fortunately they put it right there in the trailer.

This movie really does seem to have alot going for it. I can't immediately recall any bad Robert Jr. performances. In fact usually he's quite brilliant (esp. thinking about U.S. MARSHALLS, I think he carried that movie). I really like the fact that several versions of the Suit appears in the film, including the original design, that's just cool. And yeah, the effects shown so far are pretty impressive. Looks way about average for a superhero movie to me.

Yea, Movies.ign.com has an interview with John Favreau up, and the guy really seems like he "Gets it".
He was talking about how the best tool he has had was the internet, he could put up a trailer super early and just read what the fans were saying about it, gather up suggestions and work with that. I know he is one of those guys who really does what he does out of the love of the craft and not just the money and fame, and he really is showing he has a lot of respect for the comic and even from the trailer you can see he has stayed very true to the plot(other than bringing the scene from Vietnam to Iraq which is to be expected).
I think he is going to hold little back now on advertising, what he says is that they are the new kid on the block and not many people know about Iron Man, Spiderman, Batman are all established franchises so he is going to have to make it something special to compete(especially since the characters of Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne have so much in common he has to find ways to set them apart).

I just got back from seeing it. It was awesome. It's one of the best comic based movies yet. Robert Downy Jr. nails the Tony Stark character and John Favreau's direction is great. Iron Man is bad ass, go see it as soon as you can...

Saw it this afternoon and I agree, Iron Man rocked. know what I liked most about it? not once did I look at what definately needed CGI to create and think, yea that looks like CG.. it all looked so natural and real. They said Favreau was really anal about that, like the shot where you see him on the bottom of a jet, they actually strapped the empty suit to the jet so that everything would look perfect.. he was against CG but said he would cut it some slack if the team could make it look real.

Saw Iron Man yesterday and I have to say it does well at every level. The story, the effects, the characters, the actors etc... Not once did anything pull me out of the film, not once did I groan with disappointment. This film is the exact opposite of Ghost Rider. hehe

Saw it Saturday and absolutely loved it! Everything was so well done that I'd have to be trying really hard to find something to complain about.
One question I do have though (without spoiling anything) was if that Vanity Fair reporter actually worked for Vanity Fair. If so, I never realized that publication had such a focus on international terrorism and arms smuggling hehe.

the video has been pulled from youtube damnit.
I'm about to tell the extra ending so if you consider it a spoiler do not read further..
Tony Stark stumbles into his lab, begins to talk to Jarvis, and is really high on himself repeating the name Iron Man. He notices someone else is in the room and he begins to speak to Stark.
It's Sam Jackson as Nick Fury, and he wants to discuss the Avenger Project.
good stuff.

***POTENTIAL SPOILER***
One thing I'm really curious about is how they'll do Iron Man 2 if he becomes an avenger. I mean, no offense to Marvel or anything but most of the Avengers are pretty dumb characters (*cough* Giant Man *cough*) or heroes that have powers that are wayyyyy over the top (Thor).
Part of the reason I loved this movie so much was how different it was from the other Marvel movies. It was a breath of fresh away from the over-the-top super powers like Spider Man or X-Men. Now I loved both of those movies too but it was good to see something different where everything had a technological explanation.
I think it'd really hurt an Iron Man sequel if norse gods started showing up.

No way!!! The Avengers are Marvel's flagship team. Almost every major Marvel character is or has been an Avenger. Giant Man is a deep character that has a lot of storytelling potential, and Thor is one of Marvel's greatest characters EVER. I'd love to see either of them in an Avengers movie. In fact I'd love to see a solo Thor movie, it would make Lord Of The Rings look like Beast Master 2. Should they decide to FINALLY do a crossover Marvel movie we could get the chance to see some humongous Marvel style battles...

Thor is badass. A potential Avengers movie could have Captain America, the Hulk, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man and Wasp maybe even Black Panther and Quicksilver, plus you would have Nick Fury and SHIELD running things a la the Ultimate Marvel Universe. Good stuff. But, Iron Man would remain it's own franchise.
What I had heard a while back was Marvel, after starting to produce their own movies with Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk being the first films done this way, that they wanted to make Ant-Man, Thor and Captain America into their own films and then make an Avengers movie, with Favreau stating he would like to direct it. That way these characters would all be handled by one studio, Paramount, and be fully produced by Marvel so they would be able to make an Avengers film they would want to make.

If they do have a movie about Ant-Man I sincerely hope it's based on his first comic where he had to fight his way out of an ant colony. Nothing can ever top a miniature man using Judo to fend off attacking ants.

I'll put it like this. If Blade and Swamp Thing had movies then it's hard to tell which characters will get movies in the future. Moon Knight, The Goon, Nova, Adam Warlock, Invincible, Dead Man, Madman, Bone etc. Any of them could be great feature film characters given the right script. They've barely scratched the surface of comic characters in movies at this point. There have been some bad comic based movies over the years. Spawn, Captain America, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Elektra, The Punisher "new and old version", the list goes on and on. Now that Marvel has more control of the films based on their characters we're going to see better movies. I say bring 'em on.
Have any of you guys watched the Fantastic Four movie that was made in the 90's? I vaguely remember reading about it back in the day, and I've heard that it's floating around, but I've never watched it. Where can I find it?

There's an old vhs I own, don't remember which one, but it has the old FANTASTIC FOUR trailer on it. I "THINK" I saw this movie when I was a kid but have no recollection, but the trailer definitely made me want it, just because it looked so over the top, and cheesy. Like the stretch arms across the screen, although the thing, and dr. doom do look badass, wish I remembered what tape that's on.
tried to go see the new IRON MAN over this weekend, and I know I said I thought it looked like a rental, but over the past few weeks, it changed my mind. I don't have an open day to see it until next week though, bummer.

This one
lol, that was pretty cheesey... sadly I think the thing actually looked better in this one than the new one.
The movie never actually released, you can find it floating around the net, but it's like, garbage pail kids bad... Stan Lee said in an interview with Kevin Smith that the movie never intended to release, the studio had purchased rights to the franchise and it was about to expire, so they threw a movie together and never released it.

Saw it last night, WOW. As good as Spider-Man 2, maybe better, I dunno, I have to live with it awhile.Quote:

It's risky IMO. I think it could work, but there are alot of challenges. Marvel's Thor (my fav comics character BTW) has never been done well in any other medium aside from comic books. It's a challenging character to do in a serious way. Someone already mentioned Hank Pym above. Captain America on the other hand... absolutely. Especially if the first Avengers film is the resurrection of WW2 era Cap or if Cap gets his own movie beforehand.
Would love to see Avengers done well, but I would hate to see it end up as a modernized version of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (or god forbid Misfits of Science ). League X was okay, but it really had alot of problems, not the least of which was character depth and pacing. It'd be a triumph of movie making to have five (or so) main characters, do the setup, explain everybody's motivations, etc. in two hours. More often than not they can't even pull this off very well in the comics themselves.
On a side note, there is enough Marvel movie cannon out there now for a small but impressive Avengers line-up: Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man and Wolverine. Also the Beast if you really want to stretch it.
