Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness
      #133757 - 04/24/07 05:20 PM

I can't believe there isn't a thread on this. The coolest horror movie hero ever vs hordes of super-hero zombies from the Marvel Universe??

Highly recommened to both fans of Evil Dead and Marvel Zombies. Seeing Ash interacting with Spiderman (uninfected) as they look on at the Avengers killing and eating everyone in sight? Awesome. An Ash/Punisher teamup (though shortlived), even cooler. And Ash mowing through a zombified Young Avenger with a chainsaw and saying "Who's disassembles now?" (there was a popular miniseries titled Avengers: Dissassembled a while back).

It's great. Oh, and for those who aren't familiar with Marvel Zombies, they're not Romero type dumb zombies. They have all their superpowers intact (except healing powers) and a lot of their old personality, mostly after feeding. Think of them as the heroes you know without souls/morals and who have an unquenchable craving for flesh that drives them kind crazy.

Can't wait to see Ash kill some more of them.

There sort of is: http://www.horrorspeak.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/133288/an/0/page/0#Post133288

The last posts mention it.

Anyhow, I have to admit it's a pretty cool concept, if a little fanboyish (then again, how could it not be?).

I'm not collecting comics right at the moment, but when I first heard of the story concept, I admit I frowned a little. However I have heard nothing but good things about this series from my comic buddies. From what I understand this isn't a What If? or Elseworlds situation either, it's considered part of regular Marvel continuity.

It's a part of the Marvel Zombies continuity (which is a "What if" in itself), but not the mainstream Marvel continuity . . Turing the actual heros into zombies wouldn't be too good for sales I think.

Thanks for clearing that up, Guy. As I said, I'm a little out of touch on comics.

Yea, the Marvel Zombies series is just plain kickass.
The silver surfer episode ruled, and it was awesome watching them make a meal out of Colossus.

I have not seen this one, but I need to get it.

I have been out of touch with comics myself, I do however pick up a good graphic novel once in a while. I like getting the whole or most of a story told in one big book rather than a bunch of smaller comics.

Single issues are more for collecting. TPBs and Graphic Novels are the best way to read comics.

It isn't part of regular continuity. It is an alternate dimension that was first visited in Ultimate Fantastic Four #20. The original Marvel Zombies mini series which was written by the god among men Robert Kirkman is arguably the most popular comic since The Death Of Superman, every issue except for #2 had multiple print runs with issue #1 topping them all with like 4 reprints. I'm sorry, sometimes the comic book nerd in me comes bursting out. Anyways, the covers all depict zombified versions of classic Marvel covers beatifully illustrated by Arthur Suydam. Could anyone have done a better job with this series? I don't think so. Anyone, comic fan or not should get themselves a copy of the Marvel Zombies Hardcover which can be purchased at basically any comic shop. It's well worth the 25 dollar price tag and beats the hell outta payin' around a hundred bucks to get the original comics "which I have by the way, including all variants", sorry, there goes that comic geek thing again. Marvel Zombies and The Walking Dead are the reason I got back into comics after over a decade of not giving a shit about them, Robert Kirkman is responsible for both. Robert Kirkman is a genius. Hooray Robert Kirkman. ahem ROBERT KIRKMAN! Did I mention Robert Kirkman?

yeah i just picked up the graphic novel from hot topic. they did an awesome job of capturing the character of Ash. are there any other good Ash/Army of Darkness comic series out there?
