Bought The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z last week. Almost finished with The Zombie Survival Guide. Its a quick read in that its not a novel, it truly is a survival guide. Meant to be humorous, its a great read for any zombie fan. Haven't started World War Z yet, but I hear it is already in development for a feature film.

Sounds right up my alley. I'll have to check this out sometime soon.

I have two books I'm working on right now, but hope to start reading World War Z next. Lots of good reviews out there about this book. Just a fun little tidbit, Max is the son of Mel Brooks.

Have only read snippets of the Zombie Survivalists Guide in the bookstore.

*** may contain VERY MINOR spoilers for those who haven't read the books ***

I've read both books. They were very fun, and impressively well thought out and researched. The man must have spent A LOT of time reflecting on how a real worldwide zombie plague would play out, and all the political/social/military consequences it would have.

World War Z does something that very few works of zombie-fiction have been able to do : it presents the situation in a fresh and never-seen-before fashion, instead of just copying the Romero formula with a couple minor changes thrown in. It is also by far the most epic zombie story I've ever encountered, focusing on the entire world as opposed to a small group of survivors.

If the movie is done right and has a high budget, it has potential to be absolutely jaw-dropping. Some of the situations and visuals in the book are downright overwhelming in their ''epicness'' : ex. the army facing a milions-strong zombie horde that stretches from Time Square to Yonkers, massive underwater battles pitting armored scuba suits-guys against zombie crowds that FREAKIN WALK ON THE OCEAN FLOOR, firing squads that gun down LITERAL mountains of approaching zombies during days-long battles, etc.

If the movie can effectively recreate the visuals I was imagining in my head while reading the book, we'll have a new major zombie classic to enjoy.
