30 Days of Night is a 2007 horror film based on the comic book miniseries of the same name. It will be released October 19th.
PLOT: In sleepy, secluded Barrow, Alaska, the sun sets and doesn't rise for over thirty consecutive days and nights. From the darkness, across the frozen wasteland, vampires will come that will bring the residents of Barrow to their knees. The only hope for the town is the Sheriff (Josh Hartnett) and Deputy (Melissa George), a husband and wife who are torn between their own survival and saving the town they love.(From official site)
The previews for this look damn promising to me. Have you all seen them? And if so what do you think?

Love the 1st comic book series. I have both fingers and toes crossed this is worthy of source material. Based on the previews, I think they might just have the look (and maybe the ambiance) of the movie spot on.

Ha ha, it's set in Barrow, huh. Well, I've never heard anything so I doubt it was shot on location.

I checked it out last night. It's a really good movie, but not a great movie. Some pacing issues in the second half threw me off a little. 30 days just seemed to go by, and not really psychologically affect the main human characters at all. Thought there could've been a lot of potential there, but the film still has plenty of creepy, memorable moments, and a great decapitation to boot.

I thoroughly emjoyed this film. I thought it was very gritty and the look and feel to the movie was very dark and brooding. There was a stand out performance by Ben Foster as the Renfield-esque character.
Oh yeah, the gore was exquisite!

Yea, I loved it.. I really like that the Vampires were nothing like the suave seductive lady killers they are in other movies.. they are ugly as shit, and just pure beasts enjoying a total bloodfeast.. they were fucking brutal and I loved this movie.

I hear this a lot, the vamps are awesome--however, the 'heroes' (humans) are stupid cattle and you just can't empathize with them. True? But overall the reviews have been mostly positive.

I can't say I agree, some of them are, but some of them are very believable characters. One thing I like is that they never full accept that what they are facing are storybook vampires, they don't start breaking out crosses and holywater, they never once attempt a stake through the heart.. they just discover by accident that beheading works and when they have to, they do it.. but they never really confront the enemies, mainly because there is just no way they can survive it, they can get lucky and kill one that is by itself, but the mostly hunt in packs so they just try to hide and wait it out.
I really found this pretty believable myself. I have never been a big Josh Harnett fan though I love a lot of movies he is in (Blackhawk Down).. but he really does a damned good job in this movie..

I agree. This was the one thing that made me hesitate to go see the film. But he pulled it off just fine IMHO.
I also have to say that I really enjoyed the lack of Heavy Metal or Rap in the film. It's so refreshing to see a film with a minimal soundtrack and original soundtrack.

Wrote my thoughts on this movie in the Creature Feature forum; overall I enjoyed the movie but found its pacing to be a glaring flaw.
Great effort to re-envision vampires though, I wish they gave more backstory to them but then again the mystery added to their coolness.
