Don't know if any of you have heard of this one or not, I finally got to see it last night. It's a movie from Spain and is another attempt much like "Diary of the Dead" and "Cloverfield" at the camera perspective horror movie. The best thing about this movie was I went in having no idea what it was about (unlike the other two mentioned) so the result was me not expecting what to see but me experiencing what is to come right along with the people involved. If you don't know the plot already I'm going to keep you ignorant and I suggest you do everything you can to stay that way (avoid trailers and such as much as possible). The basics of the plot are you are watching a film crew who is taping a night with the local fire department for a show called "While you are sleeping". They are called to rescue an old lady from her apartment and the plot begins. I have to say this is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long time, I was let down by the other camera movies (Cloverfield was not horrible but not nearly as good as I expected it to be). There are some moments that are damned near horrifying. Maybe it's just because we only see the cream of the crop but spain is really on a roll lately with horror films. |

I agree...Brilliant little sleeper... ...and without a doubt that final scene in the kitchen is one of the creepiest fucking things i have ever seen! I saw this in spain with no subtitles so i never got to know any of the characters(something i suspect probably isn't to important here)...but from a purely visceral perspective this film reigns blood, has atmosphere to burn and remains for me, undeniably, an unsettling future ole favorite! |

I can't find it anywhere. I don't really want to buy it without seeing it first, but I can't find it at any rental place or on Netflix... |

Well, I was able to watch it. It's an instant classic. It's on par with the best zombie films of all time. It should be mandatory viewing for all horror fans. That is all... |

I have had this in my queue for a while now. My interest has been peaked and I will try and watch it this week to let you know my thoughts. |

I just wanted to add that I've viewed this movie about 10 times now, and I still think it's an instant classic. I can't find a single flaw, and IMO it's THE zombie film that fans have been waiting for. I highly recommend that you see this movie before Quarantine "which is an americanized version of the film" is released. I've looked everywhere that I can think of for a [REC] dvd, and so far I've turned up one ebay seller that's asking $30.00 not including s&h. I'm not advocating or condemning piracy, but do what it takes to see this movie... |

I thought it was pretty good, certainly a hell of a lot better than Diary of the Dead. But a timeless classic?? Personally I wouldn't go that far. But that's just me

Quote: There are better zombie films out there, but I think [REC] is the best one to come along in a very long time. I know that some of you guys are big fans of 28 Days Later, and I like it quite a bit too, but I honestly believe that [REC] is just as good if not better. There's something about the movie that appeals to me in a very profound way. IMO [REC] is easily the best POV movie yet. I've always liked The Blair Witch Project, and I think Cloverfield and Diary Of The Dead are fun too, but I think [REC] is head and shoulders above those films. Maybe I'm still hyped about the film because I wasn't even aware of it until Misfit mentioned it, but at this point I can see myself being a fan of [REC] for years to come... |

This was just released in Mexico, so I saw it last night... I loved it. I'll simply say that it's one of those rare movies I have seen in a theater where the audience (well, most people in the audience) were actually screaming. You know the filmmakers did something right, then. Couple things, through: One, like with other verité or hand-held camera movies, this one had so much shaking it was sickening at times. Curiously, through, in this movie that actually helped with the atmosphere... you really feel as dissoriented as the characters (I guess what I'm saying is that in this case the filmmakers actually knew when to do the shaky-camera thing and when not to) Two, I think calling it a "zombie film" is a spoiler... I went in knowing virtually nothing about the movie (in fact, at first I though it was going to be a "Torture Porn" movie, because of odd rumors) and so was pretty suprised by the story. But if you know what to expect about it, you'll probably notice a few genre conventions here and there. By the by, the last scene? That creepy final set-up? It's JUST what "The Blair witch project" should have cooked up for its own ending. Here it works perfectly. |

One of the best films of the last few years. The Region 2 dvd is a great buy with good extras too. |

I just finished watching this (Thanks DanielSavage) and I was very impressed. I had no idea what it was going to be about when I started watching it. It was awesome! I haven't seen a horror movie this good in a long time. Hopefully things are starting to pick up for the horror genre. I suppose it's only a matter of time before this movie gets picked up with a remake... sigh. Damnit... before I submitted this I checked and found out it has already been remade... I give up. |

For anyone else who deals with subtitle issues...There are lot of subtitle sites on the internet in which you can download text subtitle files, you can use a tool like Auto Gordian Knot to turn your DVD into a DIVX/XVID file, and then use other free tools like DVDFLICK to burn it back to DVD with the text subtitles included. there is another great tool called Divxland media subtitler which lets you hard code the subs into the video. |

I know I mentioned that I saw Quarantine in the Shocktober thread, but I'm bringing it here now. Quarantine is very good. It only strays from [REC]'s storyline a little, and it actually adds a few gore and shock scenes into the mix. If I hadn't seen [REC] before Quarantine was released I'd be calling Quarantine the best horror film from the past couple of years. But seeing as I did see [REC] first I'm going to be the first guy to say that I preferred the original. Even still, Quarantine is very entertaining. You guys should go check it out as soon as you can... |

I'm glad to hear it turned out good. I'm not always against remaking good foreign films, I understand maybe with the Ring many people may get pulled out of the experience in a movie where everyone is asian.. But with [REC], I mean did they go and remake Pan's Labyrinth? I mean I think [REC] with subtitles would have been a pretty effective release... I will check out the remake though.. I always do.. |

Finally saw this last night (TY D.Savage) I must say, I already love this movie. Tension, tension, tension, from about 10 minutes in all the way til the end. Twas a real wild ride. Though in the same vain perhaps as Blair Witch in style/appraoch, [REC} is much much better. I KNOW i'll be watching this one multiple times, where as with BWP once was enough for me. With REC I was fully immersed, and this is a rare occurance for me in my adult years. Though my Spanish is so so, I definitely needed the subtitles, but I tell you, watching events unfold from the news camera perspective, hearing people panic in a foreign language, somehow, strangely, added to the tension for me. It was like I was watching the shit hit the fan in a news broadcast. In short, thumbs way up!! The last 10 minutes especially creeped me the fuck out! People need to see this one. |

google the term "Subtitle Search" if you are watching an Xvid/Divx type the name into google with ENGLISH SUB next to it.. you should be able to find some... if you watch on a PC, use VLC, it lets you manually choose the subtitle file you want to use with the movie when you to file /open |
