Director of "High Tension" doing another remake......W..T..F?
|
|
Set to Direct remake of Piranha in 3D even..
I remember really liking the original when I was young, never saw the sequels (though the second sounded cool with them being mutated into flying fish).
Could end up being fun purely for the 3d aspects, I always loved 3d movies and feel they just don't make them enough, 3d technology has really improved over the years and it's near flawless now (any doubters need to go ride Darkkastle at Busch Gardens).

Doesn't Piranha already have a remake?
Well, at least it's a more interesting and original project than yet another remake of a generic slasher flick. If done well, a killer fish flick directed by Aja and using modern SFX could be fun...

Yea,it was a TV only remake to my knowledge.. I remember it made me feel dirty because it starred Mila Kunis when she was like 13, I was 20 at the time and all I could think during the movie was.. damn that girl is hot... then Pedobear busted through my door to tell it's wrong to look.

Luckily thinking about it is not a crime

This guy is capable of much better than this. I haven't watched Piranha since I was a kid so I'm not passing judement on it. I'm passing judgement on the fact that this guy is too talented for this shit. He needs to be doing original material. Looks like we're going to have cover directors instead of cover bands now. If Aja is going to do another remake it should be Pumpkinhead or something along those lines. Hollywood shouldn't be remaking EVERYTHING it should be remaking movies that had potential but no budget. Pumpkinhead would be a perfect example of that but now SCI FI Channel has released two shitty Pumpkinhead sequels so I don't think it'll happen for the spirit of vengeance anytime soon.

I love the original Joe Dante film. But I've already become very jaded to remake news. And I just don't care anymore. They'll remake every movie soon enough anyway. You name it, it'll be remade in the next 3 years. Near Dark, Poltergeist, The Beyond, The Legend of Hell House, Maniac, Prince of Darkness, The Howling, Re-Animator... I know I could go on, but you all get the drift. Everything will be remade in time.
But I'm surprised to hear so much praise for Aja. I personally think the guy's a total hack. He couldn't direct his way out of a paper bag.

Aja is pretty talented if you ask me. He made The Hills Have Eyes into a watchable movie, and that's no easy task. The original version of the movie is terrible...

"The original version of the movie is terrible..."
In your humble opinion.

I don't know if my opinion is all that humble, I hate The Hills Have Eyes with an undying passion. I can't find one good quality in that movie. The characters are lame, the acting is bad, the "cannibals" look ridiculous, there are no special effects to speak of, the directing isn't good and then there's the sequel. Jesus, don't get me started on the sequel. I know that this is a horror forum but that doesn't mean I have to like every horror movie ever does it? If you want to like it that's fine, to each his own, but I think it's awful. I was like 8 years old the first time I watched it, I hated it then and I hate it even more now. I've read the original synopsis on the internet and I think it would've been WAY better had Craven stuck with that plan. It doesn't really matter though, I'm a regular ass nobody of a guy and my opinion doesn't mean anything.

I liked the original HHE a lot, but I agree the sequel was a POS... looks like they were faithful in the remake of the sequel in retaining it's shittiness.

I liked the original, sequel, and remake, I thought HIGH TENSION was a great slasher film, with kind of a lame duck ending depending on how jaded you were.
His remake of Hills, was a good film, but come on man, it was a COPY/PASTE of the original for sure. Like you were saying about PUMPKINHEAD, remake something that is a good freaking movie, but lacked in budget, although I don't catch what you're trying to say about the original pumpkinhead, which is a classic IMO, and I don't think the budget was lacking for their special effects.
I have a friend who always complains about older films, they go to film school and act like they "like" film, but don't have the patience to sit through a movie that might have to go for a less is more, motif due to budget/independant restraints. So of course they like remakes, over originals, and that right there is the problem. premature ejaculatures with no patience.

I love Pumpkinhead. I think he's one of the best creatures ever. I agree that the special effects were great in Pumpkinhead too, but everything else is lacking. Lance Henrickson was the only actor in the movie who wasn't terrible. Pumpkinhead has loads of potential, and it could be among the best creature features EVER if given the chance.
There are loads of low budget horror movies from the 80s that aren't short on story. If anything gets re-made, it should be movies of that nature ie Pumpkinhead.
I'm not saying that films like Pumpkinhead suck. To be honest I have a place in my heart for them. I'm only saying they're better candidates for remakes than films that got it right the first time around.
I don't think I can explain myself any better than that.

I'd like to add this as well.
I'd rather see films like Pumpkinhead, The Burning or Sleepaway Camp get re-made rather than Prom Night, Black Christmas or The Omen.

Gotcha, the way you had worded it, made me think you were trying to say that pumpkinhead was of a "shitty" quality, my mistake, I agree that a pumpkinhead remake could be cool, but then again with the list of what you said in the second post, I can understand the idea of making BETTER ORIGINALS, into BETTER REMAKES, however I just feel that anyone currently getting their hands on any of these films will just turn them into big pile's of dogshit, now if someone proves me wrong, I'd be mighty happy.
The horror films of today are like children's toys, you watch them have fun with them, and then they get put in a chest, and lost forever within two weeks.
I definitely haven't seen a new film in the HORROR genre that has the longevity of even the shittiest classic film I own, it's called nostalgia for one part, and the other part is just a better time in filmmaking when people were putting out trash to do it, and not just to make a buck, it was a time when there were a LOT of experimental movie director's doing all kinds of things, yes a lot of it was shitty, but I'd rather watch NAIL GUN MASSACRE over SAW or some shit any day.
And I'm not saying that there haven't been new films I enjoyed, I can remember obsessing over grindhouse, hostel, slither, and 28 days later to name a few, but guess what? I don't even know where I keep those now.

If it's in 3-D shouldn't they be remaking Piranha 2? Flying devil fish, hurray!
