Doomsday

Neil Marshall has done it again! I enjoyed the hell out of this film. It has everything you'd ever want in a post apocalyptic movie, and then some. If you're a fan of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and THE ROAD WARRIOR, I'm sure you'd enjoy this film.

Re: Doomsday

I had been looking forward to this movie but I didn't think the trailer looked very good. I really do enjoy The Road Warrior and Escape From New York, I think I'll give Doomsday a look...

Re: Doomsday

I know this is no longer a cinema new release, but I just recently rented this off my netflix, and gotta say WOW! I wasn't really impressed with the trailer's or anything I had seen on the film but when I realized it was Neil Marshal and the fact that I've liked his other two features, I decided to give it a go.

You know with all the talks of remakes that are floating around recently again, I gotta say, this is where it's at, it definitely borrows from a lot of films, luckily it changed it up enough, adds a touch of humor in spots, and the fact that every film I felt it borrowed from was a film I actually liked.

I got a strong sense of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, even with the fact of the lead female having one eye, it also had it's MAD MAX moments, that seemed straight out of ROAD WARRIOR, and THUNDERDOME, throw in some 28 DAYS LATER, and some WARRIORS, and gore galore (unrated version) you got quite a flick on your hands.

This film didn't have me at hello, but it definitely had me when I got to watch a man's face be blown apart and splattered against a wall in clear savini-esque detail. Way to go Neil, great picture. This is how a new horror film should be done rather than outright remaking a film, borrow from your interests and bring something completely new to the table.

Seriously? I mean... Really????? Is that movie really any good??????
I've been misled by trailers before, but man... the Doomsday trailers made it look just friggin' awful!!
Guess I'll give it a chance. I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised

Re: Doomsday

I thought it was decent, it copies from a lot of awesome sources well enough, it has a lot going for it and there are some pretty kickass moments, but it kind of feels like a mess at times, can be rather slow.. I'd personally give it a 3/5, it is enjoyable, just some parts you have to struggle though.

I agree with every word of this. Doomsday is good, but it isn't great.

Re: Doomsday

After 3 viewings I can still say it's definitely a better than average new "horror" variant of a film. It does feel a little long at times, and some moments fail, but all in all I was pleasantly surprised.

I would just say if you're somewhat interested, and on this board. Don't judge this film by the trailer, cause the trailer's definitely make it look like shit.
