This was just released in Mexico, so I saw it last night... I loved it. I'll simply say that it's one of those rare movies I have seen in a theater where the audience (well, most people in the audience) were actually screaming. You know the filmmakers did something right, then. Couple things, through: One, like with other verité or hand-held camera movies, this one had so much shaking it was sickening at times. Curiously, through, in this movie that actually helped with the atmosphere... you really feel as dissoriented as the characters (I guess what I'm saying is that in this case the filmmakers actually knew when to do the shaky-camera thing and when not to) Two, I think calling it a "zombie film" is a spoiler... I went in knowing virtually nothing about the movie (in fact, at first I though it was going to be a "Torture Porn" movie, because of odd rumors) and so was pretty suprised by the story. But if you know what to expect about it, you'll probably notice a few genre conventions here and there. By the by, the last scene? That creepy final set-up? It's JUST what "The Blair witch project" should have cooked up for its own ending. Here it works perfectly. |
