I don't think Scarface is a remake. they just borrowed the title.

As a rule, I don't like remake's. And I despise Michael Bay.
Back in the 70's and 80's they were remaking films that were originally B&W. And for the most part, weren't really remakes. More literary adaptions than anything. They weren't being made as cash grab's like they are now. Directors cared and had visions. But more importantly the studio heads weren't as greedy back then and actually cared about putting out good movies. Those days are over and I think unfortunately, we have Romero to blame for that.
NOTLD 90, although a great movie that a lot of care and love went into, was made for the sole purpose of making cash. I fully sympathize in Romero's doing this because of the fortune he could have made from the original, but didn't because of the whole public domain debacle. But remaking for cash was born that day and we have suffered because of it.
