From what I’ve read about it, the fact that people generally use the phrase “locked in his basement” is really misleading. The setup basically was a series of heavy duty security doors starting at the basement with elaborate modern locks. There were a whole variety of types of these doors, some of which were disguised behind bookcases on hinges and other similar means leading to narrow corridors to the next room containing another locked security door. After going through seven separate locked and sometimes disguised security doors leading to soundproofed rooms you would finally get to the area where his daughter was kept. This room, which contained a series of cells could be accessed through one of two heavy duty security doors fitted with electronic locks. One door weighed 1,102 lbs and the other 661 lbs and again this main room was heavily soundproofed. |
