For anyone who hasn't heard Arthur C. Clarke died earlier this week at the age of 91. He has written/co-written dozens of books, both SF and non-fiction in the vein of astronomy and space travel. I am not an expert on Clarke, but I have read his Space Odyssey series as well as some short stories. I've always considered him part of the big three honchos of SF writers along with Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury. Like Asimov, many of his stories have leeched beyond the boundary of his books to directly impact stories and films we are familiar with today. Not to mention he is partially responsible for the success of global satellite communication, just thought I'd throw that in there too. Here's hoping the last odyssey is the best. |
