Re: Audition

Wether its worth fifteen bucks depends what you are expecting to get out of it. I’ll just talk a little about the DVD and then the film. The one you saw was probably the Lions Gate DVD of the film which is the one with the white cover with the girl on the top. The good thing about this version is that it has just about all the extras of the old Ventura release plus a few more added and also only comes in the more graphic cut of the film unlike the old release which came in two versions. The cut version is the one that Blockbuster videos picked up so for anybody trying to see the film for the first time if its at a Blockbuster and you are trying to rent or buy it used, if it’s the Ventura DVD with the yellow cover make sure it says un-rated directors cut on the box. Otherwise the Lions Gate version is well worth the buy.

Next up for the film. If you have seen just a couple of other Takashi Miike films in the past then don’t expect this to be quite like many of his others films. It’s a psychological drama, suspense film and a very good one. In terms of the graphic violence in the film, there is a lot of it but its towards the end and its not really what the film is all about. The great thing about Miike is that he can work in a very wide variety of styles and genre, this is a pure example of that. I will say that I really loved this one and that it consistently makes it into the top three of lists of peoples favorite Miike films.
