If you ever pondered the expression about an author turning over in their grave, then you might enjoy this short Martian tale from Ray Bradbury. As I recall this tale is not included in the Martian Chronicles but it's every bit as crazy as some of those chapters.
SPOILERS....
Somehow authors from classical literature, and their fictional creations, physically manifest themselves on the planet Mars as their works are on the brink of being obliterated by future earthlings. Led by Edgar Allan Poe, the writers plan a last ditch effort to save themselves by murdering an approaching human expedition to the red planet. Although not all the authors are willing to help. Dickens and Poe hash out the legitimacy of each other's works and Dickens proclaims that the destruction of his writings was simply a mistake. It's quite a bizarre tale to say the least.
