eli roth has signed on to do "cell" a book by steven king, it is schedualed for release late 2006-early 2007.
first time poster but i've trolled for a while i found this information, it's probibly not new but wanted to post it up and see how people think the zombies will be in this movie, i havent seen hostel, im gona get it next week when it comes to dvd. Ever since the remake of DotD i've been craving a good zombie movie. may this be it? story is original compared to other zombie movies, could this be the zombie movie weve been waiting all this time for?
eli roth has to do hostel 2 and i think some other movie frist before he starts on this, but he wants to co-write the script and direct. this is all rummor but he said he was doing it at the slither premier.

Sounds cool to me, I just hope they bring something new to the zombie genre, as the recent popularity has made it a bit stale. I haven't read the book but the premise sounded very cool.

Zombie movies are extremely difficult to do well; it's always seemed to me like one of the few genres of horror where the best movies don't even have the "monsters" as the main villians so it requires a lot of good character development. It'll be interesting to see how Roth does with this.

This could be cool, if done right.
I finished the book about a month ago. Great premise, though I must admit I was slightly disappointed with where King took it. Still an above average read, just not one of King's best. (IMO)

Yeah, I agree, the 'Harvard Man' plotline just fell flat for me. I would be suspect of a movie version of CELL if they stick closely to SK's plot. Generally, I cringe everytime they make a King movie, great writing and storytelling from the man, but not many folks have been able to make an acceptable translation from book to movie.

I definitely agree about most King books that are turned into movies.

I whole-heartedly agree. There are a handful of Stephen King-based films that I love (Christine, Maximum Overdrive, Carrie,Silver Bullet and others), but there are also quite a few that I just do not like/ cannot stand (TV remakes of Carrie and The Shining, Sleepwalkers, Pet Semetary 2, although that one is borderline, Children of the Corn 2, Graveyard Shift, and so on and so forth). I loved The Green Mile, but I'm not completley sure if that counts. But afterall, I love Eli Roth and Stephen King, so It should turn out okay.

I suppose I'm a little suspicious that Eli Roth isn't writing it. He's a great writer/director and I'm afraid this might turn him into a director for hire. We'll see.
