ALONE IN THE DARK
      #137828 - 06/27/08 01:42 AM

It's terrible.

Avoid Alone In The Dark like the plague. Unless you like games that make even the most trivial tasks relatively impossible then heed my warning. This game is a train wreck, and if you've been anticipating it you're going to be let down. If you're thinking it will tide you over until Resident Evil 5 then you're going to be let down. Hell, if you've been thinking that it'll keep you entertained for a couple of days then you're going to be let down. This game = let down.

Alone In The Dark has the most difficult/useless controls I've ever come across, and I've been a gamer for over 20 years. Even the most simplistic tasks, such as healing yourself or getting out of a car are nearly impossible in this game. Sometimes the simple act of walking can be mind numbingly frustrating in Alone In The Dark. Then there's the enemies. Every enemy in this game is twice as fast as the character you control, and with controls that border on impossible the combat in the game is "shall I say" difficult. Difficult is an understatement if you ask me.

At this point you may think that I don't like Alone In The Dark because the game is too hard for me. To that I say bullshit. I've never shyed away from a challenge when it comes to video games, and Alone In The Dark is no exception. I'll force myself to complete this game just because I paid 60 bucks for it. The sole purpose of this rant is to inform anyone who cares to look of Alone In The Dark's utter shittiness.

I'm serious, Alone In The Dark's horrible controls absolutely ruin any redeeming quality the game would otherwise have. The booklet that comes with the game is 13 pages long, and 4 "count them" FOUR of those pages are dedicated to the control set up alone. That's ridiculous. Do we need a completely different control scheme for every aspect of a video game? Why can't 1st person and 3rd person views be the same? Why do you have to press a button in Alone In The Dark to blink your eyes? If you want to answer any or all of these questions just play it for yourself, but you've been warned...

Alone In The Dark is pure shit, and I wouldn't recommend renting this game, let alone buying it...

The last one was not horrible but was bad in most respects, I really felt like the moment they turned Ed Carnby from a Mustaches and Suave Gentleman in the HP Lovecraft Era early 1900's to an Action Hero in a leather jacket in modern times, they instantly forget everything that made AITD great, and this game showed it even more(could tell they wanted to try to touch upon GTA IV's success a little by adding driving).

The entire team needs to break out their PC and revisit the first AITD game, and play it over and over until it sinks in what is good about it, because the modern games have lost every bit of it.
