Did anyone get this yet? I decided to go to the best buy midnight launch since I didn't get off until 11, anyway. And man is this game awesome, I LOVED GTA 3, but found Vice City, and San Andreas suffered personally for me from becoming "TOO OPEN ENDED" and just aestethic changes, nothing really inovative.
But man this game is Sick, I haven't been playing games in a few months, and I haven't put this much time, and dedication into a game since gears of war. The graphics are incredible, it was a little hard to get used to, especially driving, really difficult. But once you get the hang of it, it's on baby.
I've been playing about 15 hours, about 18% complete, the missions are pretty fun, but I'm ready for it to open up, also the activities are great, I find myself checking the map, and my phone and wondering what I want to do, and if I want to fly solo or bring someone along.
I've also been doing my own Summer of San, and Death Proof, LOL! so there's always that badass free roaming aspect. I definitely recommend picking this bad boy up, which I'm sure most of you already have, I'm still early on in the game, and Am ready for a second play through.

I picked up GTA IV for 360 on release day. It's a pretty awesome game. You're right in the fact that the driving was hard at first. I'm used to always driving as fast as I can and being able to make turns. Now I actually have to slow down to make turns.
I haven't had much of a chance to explore the online multiplayer yet. I'll do that soon because it looks like it could be sweet.

About thirty hours in now, still less than 40% complete, and I must say, this IMO is the best game I've ever played, It's a good think they have that addiction meter, cause I'm hooked.

I've played it for a bit and I've got to say that I'm honestly not all that impressed. Maybe it was all the hype building up my expectations to unrealistic levels but it's just not hooking me like previous GTA games.
I've only played for a little over 5 hours but there are a few complaints I have. The frequent phone calls are fairly annoying, especially when I'm driving and listening to a song I like. My big ocmplaint though is the new handling of the cars... I mean it feels like they handle worse than actual cars! It might just be that I still need to get used to it but I really miss how GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas handled driving.
These are fairly minor complaints all in all though. The game is still very enjoyable, just not nearly as fun as I was lead to believe. My only hope is that it gets better as time goes on because the GTA franchise is one of my favorites.

I'm kind of feeling the same way, however while I really enjoyed GTA3, I felt kind of burned out after many months of playing it and when I played VC it just felt like more of the same and it did not take long to bore me, I skipped San Andreas for this very reason (that and the hip hop theme disgusts me). So I really thought this one was really going to make a ton of fresh new changes that were going to suck me in just like the old ones did.. It did for about an hour, then it really felt like the old runaround I still feel burned out on..

I'm going to avoid GTA IV altogether. I've never been a fan of the series. The problem is that I need to know that I'm not going to fall into blue nothingness every 3 minutes when I'm playing a video game, or when I'm shooting a weapon I like to have some type of idea which direction my enemies are located. GTA has never been able to live up to my surprisingly low expectations or standards when it comes to gameplay and lack of glitches or bugs. After the past 3 or 4 games in the series I've learned my lesson. I'll just keep my 60 bucks this time around...

I haven't had much time to play lately, but I got a couple hours in last night, and ended up just driving around sight seeing, and getting into heavy altercations with the police, It still blows my mind, I can't get over it.
Some of the firefights in the levels I'm on, are just sick, I suggest you play until the bank robbery level at least! Best GTA mission I've ever played, intense doesn't even begin to describe it.

At least the graphics are decent this time around, and the game doesn't completely glitch out every 5 minutes. Those 2 new features are pretty nice additions to the GTA franchise, but to be honest I've played this game MANY MANY times before.
The GTA series is in bad need of a complete overhaul IMO. I remember when people were complaining that Resident Evil games had gotten stale. Capcom revamped the game and we got RE4 "one of the greatest video games EVER!". I sincerely hope the GTA developers have plans of changing something "or anything" about their game too.
I just don't see the big deal...

I can see where you're coming from Dan. I like "NEW GAMES" as well, but come on it's GTA maybe I wasn't burnt out on this one cause I didn't really play VICE CITY, or SAN ANDREAS I thought those in themselves were stale. But this game is PRETTY, and and FAMILIAR, and to be honest that's what I've been looking for lately, I don't need innovation right now, I need GREAT GAMES, THAT LOOK GOOD. My case in point would be something like NINJA GAIDEN 2, doesn't do much to change it's formula, but now it looks PRETTY AS HELL. and sorry MISFIT, but you lost all credibility with me when you bashed GTAIV, and praised BOOMBLOX, nerd alert.
LOL.
