Colour Tinting question
      #126893 - 11/02/05 05:16 PM

Hi, I've just finished watching the BFI DVD of nosferatu. This version is colour tinted with the 3 colours used being sepia, red and blue. Now am guessing that the sepia represents day and blue is night, is this right? Also whats the red used for?

Replies much appreciated

Actually I am curious about the colors as well??? Also, my disc has two different soundtracks to choose from. Anyone out there have some Nosferatu knowledge they can share?

I just noticed this thread. I don’t know if you meant it as a question but most silent films didn’t overtly had a specified score that went with them. In the united states there were cross promotional record deals where songs were connected with the films as tie ins, using the movie poster or stars image as cover art and usually being sold in the theater lobbies and were encouraged to be played by the theater owners during the showing. Some higher profile films did have scores that would be used in larger venues where they had a in house Orchestia but that was a rare thing. Not knowing that much about the German practice I can only guess that it was probably nearly identical. Otherwise there are a lot of scores on editions of the film including a few rock and black metal ones that are so out of place its hard not to either laugh or scream. Two of the better ones are to come out are the period organ soundtrack for the Kino DVD release and a original soundtrack by Jill Tracy that I don’t think has been used on any DVD’s that I know of but has been released in a shortened version on CD under the tittle Into the Land of Phantoms.

Yeah, similar silly soundtrack(s) with METROPOLIS as well if I'm not mistaken. I've purposely dodged those particular releases.

I believe I watched the Kino release but will have to go back and check to be sure.

How does the color red make you feel? That's probably what it represents.
