Historical Dracula vs. Cinematic Dracula
      #134291 - 07/07/07 07:10 AM

One wore armor, the other a cape.
One drew a sword, the other grew his fingernails.

Personally, I'm much more drawn to Bela Lugosi than I am to Gary Oldman. Why? I don't know. Vlad The Impaler would destroy The Count any day of the week. So what is it? Does it merely come down to the acting; the "classic" immunity? The same can be said for Karloff and DeNiro as Frankenstein's monster....Lon Chaney, Jr. and Jack Nicholson as wolf-men (stretching it).

So why is embellishment more enjoyable than fact (or maybe it isn't for you)? I know I would be more afraid of the real Im-Ho-Tep coming back from the dead sands to exact his revenge than I would of seeing a guy in rags chanting some mystic stuff at night.

I guess it all comes down to what we like to see in a movie. For me, I want to be completely removed from life when I take in a horror flick. Knowing that something is so unlikely to happen in real life, and then having that split second moment of "what if" is scarier than actually expecting the same scenario to happen in everyday life.
