I'm a little leary of all those over-the-top action scenes. I really hope this movie won't follow the same path as Live Free or Die Hard and have Indy become a cookie cutter action hero like what happened to John Mclean.

That said, I'm still wicked excited about seeing Indy on the big screen again. Here's to hoping they can make lightning strike 4 times.

I understand what you're saying, but I am not worried in the least. Considering the previous installments, especially TEMPLE OF DOOM, I would expect plenty of over-the-top action (and unfortunately more CGI I'm sure). Yet somehow Ford and Spielberg bring a level of depth to this character that just shouldn't exist. It shouldn't exist because at the heart of the thing these are truly action movies where the bulk of the film consists of stunts and explosions and set-ups for stunts and explosions. Yet despite this we're immediately immersed in the story. It defies storytelling logic. Somehow Spielberg has translated the Saturday morning serial into meaningful and soulful experience.

I think the biggest fault of the last DIE HARD film were the supporting characters. They just weren't very engaging or interesting. It wasn't a bad film, but Bruce Willis was really the only person carrying that movie all the way through. I don't think you can say that about the previous installments.

I just hope they can keep the style and feel of the original 3. There's a lot of special effects in the trailer, but hopefully those will be use judiciously, to enhance the movie rather than take it over and drown it.

I think the new Indy movie will be alright, but at this point I can't take Harrison Ford seriously as an action hero. It's going to be funny watching a 70 year old man jumping from moving cars and stuff.

Just wondering who has seen it? I finally got to see it last night and my verdict is that this movie is dog shit.

I know Temple of Doom is considered the worst Indy movie yet, but even with that annoying bitch whining through every scene I still loved the movie. But KOTCS is just absolute shit, there are a few fun moments but I really just shook my head with shame when it was over.

Many say the problem is that Ford is too old, and regardless of his age I think he did an awesome job, the movie is not held back by any of the actors IMO, just painfully bad writing.

*following contains Spoilers*

I am aware that this is just a movie, and I am supposed to suspend belief, now I was willing to do that in the past, like in Temple of Doom when they make a safe landing out of a plane from about 500 feet and just land softly on a mountain because a life raft saved them, but when Indy gets inside a lead lined fridge that is blown a few miles by a Nuclear explosion, it'\s sent flying like a bullet and rolls and bounces and he steps out unharmed to watch the mushroom cloud and has not a scar on him.... I just can't go along for the ride.

When I saw Roswell NM on the box the Ruskies were after all I could think about was please do not take this in that direction, let's not go all X-files with this brilliant series.. please please please.. oh shit they did....

Another thing that bugged me in this movie was the look of it, I'm not sure what they were doing, maybe overusing green screens, but it often had the look of characters being in a room with an animated background, it never looked quite right and I can't really put into words what they problem is, it just looks odd and cheap.

Anyways, it's not the worst movie ever made, there were some enjoyable moments, but it is not even half the quality of the worst Jones movie.

Here are my incoherent ramblings on the subject:

I liked it a lot and watched it a couple of times. There really weren't any low-points for me (except maybe the swinging monkey scene, also Marion was all smiles in life-threatening situations, wtf? That was really annoying). I liked the humor, the action was good, but there wasn't a whole lot of puzzle solving.

[spoilers]
The Roswell stuff and all that was appropriate for the period they were shooting for, so it didn't bother me one bit. A temple turned spaceship didn't seem any less believable than a magical cup that gives everlasting life, or box that melts Nazis to me.
[/spoilers]

Thumbs up from me.

Not for me, I think the series slowly spirals downward chronology with the respective release dates. Don't get me wrong, I've liked them all. Personally, the inconsistencies are what hampered Kingdom for me. I was perfectly happy with Indy walking the line between archaeologist and grave robber. Now in part four he's a G-Man with the OSS??? Had a large problem with that one. I also didn't care much for the fill-in history between Indy and Marion. It felt too forced or something. Yeah, Indy is supposed to be a bit of a dog, but it was hard to swallow he just up and walked out on her. It just wasn't the way I would have went with it. Also, thought the story just plain lagged in the middle. And yes, there unfortunately was too much cgi.

Overall I felt the idea of alternate reality beings was solid. They sorta needed a break from the spiritual aspect of the first three. What I really wanted was an alien storyline that took place at Area 51 (can't help but think that's the story Lucas shit canned), but the story we got was quite acceptable. I did enjoy the beginning with the Nazis and the nuclear blast. I was also ok with Mutt, it was kinda fun seeing him go from sort of a Short Round character to Indy's son. The chase scene at the 50's diner and on campus was one of the highlights of the film. Those scenes in particular were excellent due to the effort they put into making the sets authentic and Shia's James Dean impersonation (that went a long way in giving him a bit of an identity other than Indy's mini-me).

I do have to say it would be great fun to have all these characters together along with Connery for another go around. Maybe something along the lines of Nazi war criminals trying to resurrect Hitler's body. I pay for another trip to the theater.

I enjoyed it as well, but I find myself forgiving a lot. Maybe it's because I just want to like it more than I initially did. It's very inconsistent, with a hand full of things I did like, along with a handful of things I didn't like.

*****SPOILERS******

Alright, some of the things I enjoyed:

1. I dug the opening. Yeah the bit with the refrigerator is a bit much, but shoot me dead I LOVED it! If you can stomach that intro, I say you're in good shape to survive the rest.

2. Harrison Ford. Old, but damn he still has it in him. I even liked the concept that he became a decorated war hero. It only makes sense. He was probably one of the first in line to sign up when the war broke out.

3. Mutt. I enjoyed his character. I liked how they didn't make him a carbon copy of his father (ala THE MUMMY RETURNS), but you can see he possess a few of his personality traits. My only complaint with him is they didn't do more with the father/son dynamic after it's brought to light, like the scene in THE LAST CRUSADE where Indy talks to his father on the zeppelin.

4. Campus chase scene. Out of all the action pieces in the film, this one felt %100 old fashioned Indiana Jones. They nailed it on the head with this one.

5. The jungle chase, with the exception of the swinging monkeys. Again, I loved the playfulness of the scene. How the characters are tossed from car to car and left to deal with one situation after another. I even love the killer ants at the end.

Things I didn't care too much for:

1. As mentioned earlier, the fucking monkeys. I mean, I know the series is supposed to be pulpy and such, but there's a limit to what I can buy on screen, and that was one of them.

2. Marion. Help me God, I love her. But aside from her introduction at the camp (which I found priceless) I felt she was tragically underused. And as stated, she just seemed to smile and be happy the whole time.

3. Speaking of Marion, I hated the part where she drove the jeep off the cliff and used the tree to lower them to the river. I HATED that part! I mean, I actually hated it more than the CGI monkeys. At least in a twisted sense they served the story.

4. The end of the campus chase scene, where Indy says to the student, "If you want to be a good archaeologist, you need to get out of the library!" A complete contradiction to what he said in the first movie. Again I, for some reason, had a big problem with this.

5. As Misfit mentioned, the cinematography. It was too crisp and clean for me. All the colors popped out, and it just looked like a completely different film than the previous ones.

6. The alien aspect. It's a fuzzy line with this one for me. I felt that it clashed with certain aspects of the first three films. The first three films grounded themselves within a universe where God exists, and everything in the Bible is true. However, I don't remember anything being mentioned about God creating multidimensional beings. It's a nitpick, I know, and this part doesn't really get to me unless I start thinking about it too much. Religious aspects aside, I almost liked this idea, but I didn't feel like they went anywhere with it. The ending just fell flat for me. It should've been something fantastic, like when they opened the Ark in RAIDERS, but it was very underwhelming.

***********END OF SPOILERS************

Overall, I walked out of the theatre entertained enough, but also wondering what was for dinner, and a great movie shouldn't do that. I didn't eat for 2 days after I saw THE DARK KNIGHT. That movie literally gave my body enough nourishment for 2 days. And shame on INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL for not doing the same. If there was one thing the movie made me want though, is another Indy movie. I want Lucas and Co. to study what went wrong with this one, and bang out a TRUE final installment to this near fantastic series.
